Job Overview
The Press Assistant supports printing operations by assisting with the setup, operation, maintenance, and quality control of printing equipment. This position ensures print jobs are completed efficiently, accurately, and according to production schedules while maintaining a safe and organized work environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist press operators in setting up printing machines for production runs.
- Load paper, ink, plates, and other printing materials into press equipment.
- Assist monitoring printing processes to ensure quality standards and production requirements are met.
- Assist inspecting printed materials for color accuracy, registration, alignment, and overall quality.
- Help troubleshoot minor equipment issues and report mechanical problems to supervisors.
- Clean, maintain, and organize printing equipment and work areas.
- Package, label, and prepare completed jobs for delivery or shipping.
- Maintain accurate production records and job documentation.
- Follow production schedules to ensure deadlines are met.
- Adhere to workplace safety procedures and company policies.
- Assist with inventory management, including monitoring stock levels of paper, ink, and production supplies.
- Support other production and finishing tasks as required, including but not limited to cutting, folding, binding, and laminating.
What We're Looking For:
Education
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Technical training in printing technology or graphic communications is an asset.
Experience
- Previous experience in a printing, manufacturing, or production environment preferred.
- Experience operating printing or finishing equipment is an asset but not required.
Required Skills
- Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to learn printing equipment operation.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced production environment.
- Good organizational and time-management skills.
- Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
- Basic math skills for measuring and calculating production requirements.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and move materials weighing up to 50 lbs (23 kg).
- Frequent bending, reaching, and repetitive motions.
- Ability to work around machinery and production equipment safely.
Working Conditions
- Manufacturing or production facility environment.
- Exposure to printing inks, paper dust, noise, and moving machinery.
- Overtime, evening, or weekend work will be required to meet production deadlines.
- Regular working hours are based on a rotating shift schedule, alternating weekly between a day shift (6:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., Monday to Friday) and an afternoon shift (2:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., Monday to Thursday).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00-$23.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40.0 per week
