Job Summary
We are currently looking for a General Machinist / CNC Machinist (Machine Operator Grade 3 or 5) to join our manufacturing team. The successful candidate will operate both conventional and CNC machines to fabricate precision parts from metal and non-metal materials. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of machining practices, be comfortable interpreting technical drawings, and possess a commitment to quality and safety.
Responsibilities:
- Operate lathes, mills, grinders, and CNC machinery.
- Read technical drawings and determine dimensions/tolerances.
- Change tools and machine components as required.
- Set speeds, feeds, angles, and coolant flow per established parameters.
- Observe machining cycles and verify finished product specifications using measuring instruments (e.g., micrometers, gauges).
- Use hand and power tools, fixtures, and surface plates.
- Troubleshoot issues in collaboration with supervisors or programmers.
- Follow CNC setup sheets, programs, and procedural documentation.
- Adhere to company Health & Safety and Quality Management policies.
- Report workplace safety incidents or concerns.
Qualifications:
- Valid General Machinist (429A) or CNC Machinist ticket (An Asset).
- Minimum 3 years of experience in a machine shop manufacturing environment required.
- Red Seal certification considered an asset.
- Experience with machine setup, tooling selection, troubleshooting, and process improvement.
- Forklift and Overhead Crane certifications (considered assets).
- Excellent attention to detail and quality.
- Ability to multitask and follow instructions accurately.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Shortlisted candidates may be required to complete a machining knowledge review and practical shop assessment.
Working Conditions and Physical Demand:
- Mandatory PPE: steel-toe boots, safety glasses, hearing protection, uniform, and gloves (as needed)
- This position requires frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting materials weighing up to 60 lbs (27 kg), with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Exposure to noise, vibration, dust, and fumes (safety controls provided).
Schedule:
- Full-time (Day/Afternoon/Rotating Shifts; 10 hours)
- Monday to Thursday (weekends or overtime as needed)
Compensation:
- Experienced Machinist (minimum 3 years practical machining experience): $24.14 to $29.21/hour, based on experience and demonstrated setup capability
- Ticketed General Machinist or CNC Machinist (Red Seal or Ontario Certificate of Qualification preferred): $32.20 to $36.18/hour, based on experience and demonstrated setup capability
