Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Residential Mortgage Underwriter to join our team. The ideal candidate will evaluate mortgage loan applications, assess risks, and ensure compliance with lending policies. This role requires a strong understanding of financial services, risk analysis, and data collection to make informed lending decisions that align with company standards and regulatory requirements. The Mortgage Underwriter plays a critical role in facilitating homeownership opportunities while maintaining the financial integrity of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Review and analyze mortgage loan applications, supporting documents, and credit reports to determine eligibility.
- Conduct thorough risk analysis to assess borrower creditworthiness and repayment capacity.
- Evaluate financial data, including income, assets, debts, and credit history, ensuring accuracy and completeness.
- Apply underwriting guidelines and policies to approve or decline loan requests.
- Collaborate with loan officers and other stakeholders to clarify application details and resolve discrepancies.
- Prepare detailed underwriting reports that summarize findings and recommendations.
- Ensure all loan decisions comply with federal, state, and company regulations.
- Utilize negotiation skills when discussing terms or requesting additional information from applicants or agents.
Experience
- Proven experience in residential mortgage underwriting or a similar role within the financial services industry.
- Strong knowledge of risk analysis techniques, data collection methods, and mortgage lending policies.
- Familiarity with financial calculations, math proficiency, and accounting principles relevant to mortgage evaluation.
- Excellent analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex financial data accurately.
- Effective communication skills for negotiating terms and collaborating with team members.

Pay: $50,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
