Smack Pet Food Inc. – Winnipeg, MB – manufacturers of the world’s best food for dogs and cats – is seeking a Business Support Specialist to join our growing company. Smack is a family-owned business located in Winnipeg, MB. Celebrating our 19th year in business, we market and sell our products to specialty pet retailers (B2B) and consumers (DTC).

This is a dynamic position for someone who enjoys variety and wants exposure to all aspects of a growing consumer products company. You'll work closely with our sales, accounting, customer service, marketing, and operations teams to help ensure everything runs smoothly.
The applicant will be highly motivated and have a bachelor’s degree in business and a functional understanding across a broad range of areas, including marketing, accounting, finance, economics, and statistics.
You'll receive hands-on training and ongoing mentorship from Smack's leadership team, providing a unique opportunity to develop a well-rounded understanding of our products, the pet industry, and the daily operations of a growing premium consumer brand.
Duties & Responsibilities
Retailer Sales Support
- Support retail accounts with cataloging general product data and logistics information
- Coordinate documentation required for orders
- Respond to retailer inquiries by phone and email and provide product information and sales support
- Coordinate retailer spotlights in a cross-team role with Marketing
- Help process and manage daily support tickets
Direct-to-Consumer Customer Support
- Answer customer inquiries regarding products, feeding, ingredients, and orders
- Provide exceptional customer service through email and other communication channels
- Resolve customer issues in a professional and timely manner
Accounting & Administration
- Process business receipts and perform data entry
- Assist with inventory and financial reconciliation and reporting on a monthly basis
- Support day-to-day administrative tasks
Marketing Support
- Assist in preparing monthly retailer newsletters
- Create or edit simple promotional materials using Canva
- Assist with website and product content updates
- Assist with affiliate and influence communication
Systems & Technology
- Learn and become proficient in business software including but limited to:
- Shopify
- Xero
- Microsoft Excel
- Microsoft Office
- Google Workspace
- Assist with maintaining accurate data across multiple business systems
Key Qualifications, Skills, & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or a related field
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- High attention to detail
- Ability to prioritize multiple projects simultaneously
- Strong customer service mindset
- Comfortable learning new software and technology
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Office
- Must have Permanent Residency or be a Canadian citizen to apply
- Eager and enthusiastic to work in-person in an office environment

Experience:
- Bachelor's degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Marketing, Management, or a related field.

- Previous co-op, internship, summer employment, or previous experience in customer service, administration, accounting support, sales support, marketing coordination, or other business-related roles is an asset.
