What you'll do
This Specialist role is essential for developing and implementing strategic asset management plans that optimize lifecycle
value, enhance system reliability, and manage risk across BC Hydro’s substation infrastructure. You’ll be responsible for
developing strategic asset management plans for the maintenance and sustainment of substation assets in a way that
maximizes the life cycle value of the assets while meeting performance requirements and managing risks to acceptable
levels. This will involve initiating and guiding programs and projects that implement these plans and ensuring that
maintenance and capital investment decisions align with asset health, system priorities, and resource availability.
The successful candidate will draw on a wide breadth of utility experience with specialized knowledge and experience with
aging infrastructure and long-term infrastructure planning to make strategic recommendations regarding the best value
investment decisions for substation assets over the long term. The job will involve working collaboratively with Operations,
Engineering, Environmental, Safety, and other and other key stakeholders.
Duties include:
- Create and maintain long-term (2–10 year) asset sustainment and investment plans based on asset condition,
performance trends, and stakeholder requirements.
- Lead the development of sustainment and maintenance work plans for your asset class and align budgets with strategic
priorities and investment plans.
- Apply asset management principles to maximize customer value and support BC Hydro’s business objectives.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Environmental, Safety, and other internal teams to ensure alignment and
integration of asset strategies.
- Analyze and report on system outages and asset failures; recommend corrective actions and improvements.
- Maintain and update asset strategies, maintenance standards, and performance tracking systems.
- Develop spare parts and replacement strategies; support emergency response planning and execution.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and safety requirements, including WorkSafeBC and environmental standards.
- Support compliance with Mandatory Reliability Standards (MRS) and contribute to broader corporate initiatives such as
the Integrated Resource Plan and electrification goals.
- Mentor and coach junior Engineers, Asset Managers and Planners.
- Facilitate cross-functional committees and stakeholder engagement to resolve issues and align priorities.
