Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Landscape Supervisor to lead a landscape construction crew while ensuring projects are completed safely, efficiently, and to a high standard of quality. The ideal candidate is a hands-on leader with strong knowledge of landscaping operations, crew management, equipment use, jobsite safety, and client-facing professionalism.
This role is responsible for supervising daily field operations, coordinating labour, materials, and equipment, maintaining quality control, and ensuring work is completed on schedule and within company standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise and lead landscape construction and/or maintenance crews on a daily basis
- Assign tasks, set expectations, and monitor productivity and quality of work
- Train, mentor, and support crew members in proper landscaping techniques, equipment use, and safe work practices
- Promote a positive, respectful, and accountable team environment
- Conduct daily site meetings and communicate job priorities clearly to crew members
Project & Site Management
- Oversee day-to-day operations on residential and/or commercial landscape sites
- Read and interpret landscape plans, layouts, grades, and project specifications
- Coordinate labour, equipment, materials, and subcontractors to keep projects on schedule
- Monitor project progress and identify issues that may affect timelines, budget, or quality
- Ensure jobsites are organized, clean, and professionally maintained
- Complete site inspections and final walkthroughs to ensure work meets company and client expectations
Landscape Construction Oversight
Supervise work such as:
- Interlock, paver, and natural stone installation
- Retaining walls and stone step installation
- Deck and dock construction
- Tree planting, mulching, and grading
- Drainage and erosion projects
- Installation of septic systems, light road construction and watercrossings.
- Operation and daily maintenance of skid steers, mini excavators, loaders, compactors, and other landscaping equipment
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce all company safety policies, procedures, and jobsite standards
- Ensure crew members use proper PPE and operate tools and equipment safely
- Identify and correct unsafe conditions on jobsites
- Ensure compliance with applicable workplace safety regulations and company policies
Communication & Administration
- Communicate with management regarding scheduling, site progress, labour needs, and job issues
- Act as a professional point of contact for clients, suppliers, and subcontractors on site
- Maintain daily job logs, time records, site notes, and material tracking
- Assist with estimating, job planning, and material takeoffs when required
- Report deficiencies, damages, delays, and customer concerns promptly
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of landscaping experience, with strong hands-on knowledge of landscape construction, maintenance, or both
- Previous supervisory or crew lead experience in the landscaping, construction, or property maintenance industry
- Strong understanding of landscaping methods, materials, tools, and equipment
- Ability to read landscape drawings, layouts, and project plans
- Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills
- Ability to manage crews, prioritize tasks, and keep projects moving efficiently
- Valid driver’s licence, minimum Class A(R), with clean driving record
- Experience operating landscape equipment and towing trailers is considered an asset
- Knowledge of jobsite safety practices and applicable regulations
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physically demanding work when needed
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in landscape construction, excavation and property development.
- Experience with equipment such as skid steers, mini excavators, and compact machinery
- A(R) licence and trailer experience is an asset
- First Aid / CPR certification is an asset
- Health and safety training such as Working at Heights, WHMIS, or equivalent is an asset
