Pasteurization and Production Worker (Hybrid Role, FT)
Prairie West Ice Cream is a Manitoba family-owned and operated business dedicated to producing high-quality ice cream products. Our plant is currently CFIA, BRC, and Peanut-free certified. Our plant produces several brands of ice cream in a variety of container sizes and is increasing our portfolio each year with new products and clients. The ideal candidate will be responsible for contributing to pasteurization and production, maintaining the high standards of quality that our customers expect.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Pasteurization:
- Operate pasteurization equipment and ensure ice cream and dairy mixes are made to specifications.
- Monitor controls during production and transfers, maintaining meticulous ingredient control.
- Conduct regular quality checks on incoming raw milk and finished products.
- Monitor and record data related to temperature, pressure, and processing times. Implement corrective actions when deviations from standards are identified.
- Maintain accurate records of pasteurization processes, quality checks, and equipment maintenance.
- Troubleshoot mechanical breakdowns and equipment malfunctions, and perform necessary repairs.
- Maintain equipment in the department, ensuring food quality, safety, and sanitary operations.
- Lift and dump bags of dry ingredients (up to 50 lbs.).
- Assist in thorough cleaning of the Pasteurizing equipment and raw room regularly to maintain hygiene and prevent contamination.
- Operate a forklift safely at heights of up to 26 feet when accessing pallet.
Production:
- Operate and monitor machinery, fillers, inclusion feeders etc., that involved in the production process, ensuring smooth and efficient operation.
- Conduct regular quality checks and CCP checks (Metal detector and X-ray)on finished products to meet and maintain high standards prior to entering blast freezer.
- Address deviations promptly, ensuring efficiency.
- Assist with servicing equipment before, during and after production when necessary.
- Ensure refrigerated and frozen ingredients required for the day are accessible and prepared.
- Complete paper documentation accurately and work with iPads for electronic forms in the Redzone system.
- Assist with end of day clean up to maintain a clean and organized workspace.
- Adhere to strict hygiene, safety, and good manufacturing and company policies.
- Be able to stand for up to 9 hours.
- Ensure client and company confidentiality at all times.
Requirements:
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on experience in pasteurization.
- Experience in food manufacturing or processing, GMPs, and FIFO is required.
- Possess knowledge of HACCP principles and HTST pasteurizing systems as applied in a dairy processing plant.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot equipment is necessary.
- Ability to operate forklift and pallet jacks safely.
- Strong attention to details.
- Excellent critical thinking.
- Effective communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
- Ability to strictly abide by rules and regulations.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Punctuality and reliability are essential.
- Be flexible and adaptable to changes in production schedules (days/ evenings) and tasks as needed.
- Personal transportation and a valid driver's license are necessary due to limited public transport availability during required working hours.
