Overview
SpringRock Bookkeeping Inc. is seeking a versatile and experienced Accountant – Special Projects to join our team. This position is well suited to an accounting professional who enjoys variety, problem-solving, and helping clients resolve complex or time-sensitive financial matters.
Unlike a traditional recurring bookkeeping role, this position will focus primarily on short- to medium-term, one-off client engagements. The successful candidate will take ownership of special projects, assess incomplete or disorganized financial records, and produce accurate and practical results for clients.
Key Responsibilities
- Respond to Canada Revenue Agency documentation requests, reviews, and information queries
- Gather, organize, and prepare supporting documentation for CRA submissions
- Prepare financial information and reporting packages for clients seeking bank loans or other financing
- Clean up and correct bookkeeping and accounting records for clients who have fallen behind
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, loans, payroll accounts, and general ledger balances for clients
- Identify and correct historical bookkeeping errors and inconsistencies
- Bring overdue bookkeeping records up to date
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns, including overdue or amended returns
- Review GST/HST accounts and reconcile amounts reported to the CRA
- Correct payroll records and assist clients with overdue payroll reporting
- Prepare working papers and supporting information for corporate income tax returns
- Prepare straightforward corporate income tax returns, depending on the candidate’s experience
- Communicate with clients to obtain missing records and clarify financial transactions
- Coordinate with bookkeepers, managers, external accountants, financial institutions, and government agencies
- Maintain clear documentation of work completed, adjustments made, and outstanding matters
- Manage several special projects with different priorities and deadlines
Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in accounting, business administration, or a related field
- Relevant experience in bookkeeping, public accounting, corporate accounting, or tax preparation
- Strong understanding of bookkeeping principles and the accounting cycle
- Experience preparing GST/HST returns and processing payroll
- Familiarity with corporate income tax compliance and preparation
- Experience communicating with the CRA and responding to documentation requests is an asset
- Proficiency with QuickBooks Online and Microsoft Excel
- Experience with additional accounting, payroll, or tax preparation software is an asset
- CPA designation, progress toward a CPA designation, or equivalent practical experience is an asset but not required
