SUMMARY
A Laboratory Analyst examines and tests incoming packaging and raw materials for conformity, and testing and releasing manufactured pharmaceuticals to customers. The Laboratory Analyst is required to ensure that all elements of GMP are followed, as administered by Health Canada.
Personnel filling this position must have strong analytical skills, good record keeping, and the ability to pay attention to detail.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Examines packaging materials for conformance to specifications.
- Analyses active pharmaceutical ingredients and excipients, using predetermined pharmacopeia methodologies.
- Analyses finished goods (pharmaceuticals) to ensure products are within specifications, using USP or BP testing methodology.
- Performs calibration and maintenance of laboratory instruments such as Ion Chromatography, Spectrophotometer, polarimeter, pH meter, conductometer and titration equipment.
- Monitors processes and various areas of the facility under GMP regulations and documents parameters to reflect compliance or deviations.
- Water sample testing including microbiological and endotoxin tests.
- Preparation of various standards, such as conductivity standard solution and assembling of endotoxin test kit.
- Records data for analytical studies performed on various haemodialysis concentrates.
- Completion and maintenance of daily work orders for haemodialysis concentrates.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Analysts require at minimum, completion a two-year post-secondary diploma, or preferably an undergraduate degree in chemical, biochemical or chemical engineering technology.
- Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
- Self-motivated with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities.
- Conversant in the use of laboratory equipment and maintenance of chemicals.
- Ability to follow recognized quality control procedures to ensure accuracy of data.
- Familiar with the safety guidelines in the handling of chemicals and laboratory equipment.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Full time position with 35 hours of work, Monday through Friday.
Mainly inside work.
Limited requirement for overtime duties.
Exposure to some hazardous chemicals in controlled environment.
