Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on financial controller for our Vancouver office. The successful candidate will possess strong accounting & communication abilities, excellent organizational skills, a keen attention to detail, and a readiness to handle a variety of responsibilities within a fast-paced, collaborative environment. Key Responsibilities:
- Project Accounting and costing: Help the engineers and management team tracking Work In Progress (WIP) and ensuring accurate revenue recognition for projects.
- Month-End/Year-End Close: Managing the financial close process, ensuring all transactions are recorded properly, and producing financial statements in compliance to ASPE framework.
- Cash Flow Management: Overseeing accounts payable (AP) and accounts receivable (AR), managing banking relationships, and ensuring adequate cash flow to support company operations.
- Audit and Tax Compliance: Serving as the primary liaison with external auditors and tax professionals, ensuring all tax filings (local, state, federal) are accurate and timely.
- Remittance filling: Managing government remittances and fillings such as WCP, EHT and GST payments on a timely basis.
- Bank deposits: Managing relationship with the bank and deposits of checks.
- Staff Leadership: Mentoring and managing accounting team members (AP/AR clerks, Front desk Admin), ensuring their work is accurate.
- Internal Controls and Risk Management: Establishing, monitoring, and enforcing internal financial policies to prevent fraud and errors.
- Employee benefits Management: Managing employee’s benefits through our RBC benefits plan and working with HUB, our benefit brokerage for future benefits negotiations.
- Payroll Management: Managing employee payroll submission and updates ensuring employees are paid accurately and any approved pay rates are implemented.
- Project Reporting: Providing detailed project-level financial data to managers for decision-making through various reports provided via the ERP.
- Project Invoicing: Managing and preparing client invoices through the ERP and working with the accounting clerk to ensure that invoices are submitted on a timely manner in conjunction with coordinating with clients for any specific requirements.
- GL reconciliations and maintenance: Managing various GL reconciliations and schedules such as prepaids, accrual and CAPEX and maintain such schedules to ensure accuracy and integrity of the financial statements.
Key Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance related field.
- Experience in project accounting including project billing.
- Ideally bookkeeping certificate or other recognized accounting designations.
- Strong understanding of financial statement components such as Balance Sheet, Income Statements and Cashflow statements.
- Experience and knowledge of ASPE with good understanding of Canadian accounting standards.
- Experience with GL reconciliations and other task related reconciliations.
- Fluent in Microsoft suite products such as MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- 5 – 8 years of progressive accounting experience.
- Knowledge and experience of working with WCB, EHT, GST and other government institutions for mandatory remittances.
- Payroll experience with such providers as ADP, including payroll preparation and submission.
- Experience working with external auditors for review engagement and other standards applied to the organization.
- Be able to be at office 5 days a week as this is on-site position.
- Have had managed at least 2 subordinates and delegated tasks.
- Experience with Foreign Exchange calculation in relationship to financial statements.

Pay: $85,000.00-$105,000.00 per year
