Days (11:00am-7:00pm 52.5 hours bi-weekly)
Position Summary
The Float RPN is an extra position to support with nursing department operations. Usually scheduled 11:00am-7:00pm or as needed to provide nursing coverage for a floor shift. 7 shifts bi-weekly including every other weekend and call ins.
Core Responsibilities
- Takes direction from shift staff nurse
- Complete initial and ongoing assessments and update care plans for residents.
- Ensuring that all admission, transfers and discharges checklists of residents are completed
- Residents identified on the dashboard as requiring assessments and service plan revisions are completed.
- Assist with RPN and/or PSW on duty with completing tasks as assigned.
- May be schedule to provide coverage for a floor shift and cover staff breaks as required.
- May be asked to work overtime and /or called in to work as a shift nurse.
- Working in collaboration with all team members
- Responding to emergency situations;
- Responding to resident and family concerns, promptly engaging the Resident Care Manager and Executive Director accordingly;
- Completing pertinent paperwork and reports correctly and in keeping with assigned deadlines; maintaining accurate charts for each resident and ensuring all reporting is completed and current;
- Ensuring that care services delivered are in accordance with all pertinent legislative requirements (e.g. the Retirement Homes Act, 2010), company policies, and industry best practices;
- Meeting the Standards of the College of Nurses of Ontario at all times;
- Supporting the Infection Control Program for the residence;
- Supporting the orientation of new employees;
- Other duties as assigned.
The key qualifications for this position will include, but are not limited to:
- Current certificate of competence with the College of Nurses of Ontario
- Two (2) years of nursing experience in a similar setting;
- Valid CPR certificates is preferable;
- Ability to communicate in a friendly and professional manner;
- Exceptional assessment skills and time management skills;
- Uses sound judgment and tact in handling confidential matters;
- The ability to conduct your work on a computer utilizing PointClickCare and Microsoft Office programs;
- The successful candidate must be prepared to be flexible in the hours of work to accommodate nursing activities of the residence, this will include covering shifts on the floor.
The nature of this position will require the successful candidate to provide a Vulnerable Sector Police Background Check prior to commencement of employment.
