The Elizabeth Fry Society of Greater Vancouver (EFry) is a charitable organization that supports women, girls, and children at risk, involved in or affected by the justice system. Our programs work to break the cycle of poverty, addiction, mental illness, homelessness, and crime.
We are recruiting for a Registered Nurse (RN) / Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) for our Sequoia at Firth Residence Program. Located in Abbotsford, the Sequoia at Firth Residence Program is a provincial specialized substance use treatment program that serves women and gender diverse people with severe and high-risk substance use dependency as a primary concern and who may have co-occurring moderate mental health care needs. The average length of stay will be 3-months, or longer when clinically indicated. The program is strengths-based, trauma-informed, culturally safe, and concurrent disorder capable care delivered through evidence-based therapeutic interventions. The goal of the program is to provide evidence-based treatment, education, and support, through a multidisciplinary team, to reduce problematic substance use, and improve overall health and social wellbeing.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Maintains client records by performing activities such as collecting and documenting information including health care information regarding clients and their families, nursing observations, telephone communications, interventions, teaching, and care evaluations to ensure that client records are current and complete.
· Plans direct care for the clients by performing activities such as reviewing client/family history, developing a care plan specific for the client, and meeting with other members of the health care team to discuss and review the care plan.
· Provides direct patient care and collaborates with other members of the health care team to evaluate patient care in the bed-based treatment setting by methods such as assessing client health status, observing, monitoring, and evaluating client progress, symptoms and behavioural changes, reorganizing priorities, and managing client’s medication as required. Performs CPR as required.
· Identifies own learning needs, reviews these with the Program Supervisor, or delegate, and engages in a variety of activities to meet these needs.
· Monitor the day-to-day operations of residence to ensure quality control in adherence to licensing regulation.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Current practicing registration as a Registered Psychiatric Nurse or as a Registered Nurse with the British Columbia College of Nurses & Midwives (BCCNM).
· Graduation from a recognized diploma or degree program in Nursing or Psychiatric Nursing.
· One (1) year of recent, related nursing experience in substance use and mental health care setting, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
· Knowledge of the diagnosis and treatment of substance dependence, behavioural, social emotional and mental health/psychiatric problems in women and gender diverse people.
· Knowledge of developmental theory.
· Demonstrated ability to relate effectively to women and gender diverse people with substance dependence and their families.
· Demonstrated ability to participate as a member of an interdisciplinary care team, work independently, and function as a nursing resource.
· Demonstrated ability to adjust to unexpected events, problem-solve, and deal with conflict.
· Demonstrated ability to plan, organize and prioritize work.
· Experience working in a licensed facility is an asset.
· Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
· Ability to lift up to 30 lbs.
ADDITIONAL JOB REQUIREMENTS:
· Standard First Aid with CPR-C.
· Food Safe Level 1.
· Evidence of a Tuberculosis Test and compliance with the TB Control Program.
· Doctor’s Note of fitness required.
· Enhanced Security Screening Candidate must be a PR holder or a citizen with minimum 5 years Canadian residency) & satisfactory Criminal Record Review (Vulnerable Sector Search).
· Valid driver’s license (Class 5) with satisfactory driving record.
