Bike Mechanic (Apprentice Level)

About the Role
We are seeking a motivated and mechanically inclined Bike Mechanic (Apprentice Level) with an interest in electric bicycles (E-Bikes) to join our team. This role focuses primarily on the assembly, servicing, maintenance, and repair of E-Bikes while providing excellent customer service and ensuring all bikes are operating safely and efficiently.
The successful candidate will also be required to travel to customer locations in Downtown Toronto to perform on-site servicing and repairs. Candidates must have their own reliable vehicle and a valid driver's licence for travel between service locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Assemble new E-Bikes according to manufacturer specifications and quality standards.
- Perform pre-delivery inspections (PDI) to ensure bicycles are fully assembled, tested, and road-ready.
- Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues affecting E-Bikes.
- Service and repair electric drive systems, motors, batteries, controllers, displays, sensors, and wiring connections.
- Inspect, test, and replace E-Bike batteries while following proper safety procedures.
- Diagnose battery charging issues and perform electrical system inspections.
- Update and configure E-Bike firmware using manufacturer diagnostic software when required.
- Repair and adjust braking systems, hydraulic disc brakes, gear shifting systems, drivetrains, chains, derailleurs, cassettes, and cranksets.
- Install and replace bicycle components including wheels, tires, tubes, pedals, handlebars, saddles, suspension components, and accessories.
- Perform wheel truing, spoke replacement, hub servicing, headset adjustments, and bottom bracket maintenance.
- Conduct routine maintenance including lubrication, safety inspections, torque checks, and performance testing.
- Test ride E-Bikes after repairs to verify proper functionality and ensure all repairs meet safety standards.
- Maintain accurate records of repairs, diagnostics, replacement parts, and service history.
- Educate customers on proper E-Bike operation, charging procedures, battery care, and routine maintenance.
- Manage inventory of replacement parts, batteries, and service tools.
- Keep the workshop clean, organized, and compliant with health and safety standards.
- Travel to customer sites throughout Downtown Toronto to perform on-site E-Bike servicing, repairs, diagnostics, and maintenance.
- Assist senior technicians with advanced electrical troubleshooting and continue developing technical knowledge through hands-on training.
Qualifications
- Apprentice-level experience as a Bicycle or E-Bike Mechanic, or completion of a bicycle mechanic training program.
- Basic understanding of bicycle mechanics and E-Bike electrical systems.
- Familiarity with Bosch, Shimano STEPS, Bafang, Yamaha, Brose, Mahle, or similar E-Bike drive systems is considered an asset.
- Ability to use hand tools, torque wrenches, multimeters, and diagnostic equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and willingness to learn.
- Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
- Good communication and customer service skills.
- Ability to lift and move bicycles weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Must possess a valid G Class Driver's Licence and have access to a reliable personal vehicle, as travel to Downtown Toronto for customer service appointments is required.
