About the Role
Sphinx Healing Services provides trauma-informed, culturally responsive care for Indigenous youth across Alberta who are impacted by trauma, FASD, mental health challenges, addiction, and complex behavioural needs.
We are seeking dedicated Shift Leads to support daily residential operations, guide frontline staff during shifts, and ensure consistent, high-quality, culturally grounded care for youth in a high-risk residential setting.
This role replaces previously considered Team Manager level positions and focuses on frontline leadership rather than administrative management.
Position Summary
Shift Leads provide day-to-day leadership within the home, support staff across shifts, assist with complex youth needs, and act as the primary point of escalation during incidents.
This is a frontline leadership role focused on structure, consistency, culture, and operational support.
Shift Lead Responsibilities
- Provide leadership and support to frontline staff during assigned shifts
- Support implementation of individualized care plans for high-risk youth
- Act as shift lead during incidents (aggression, self-harm, crisis, substance use, behavioural escalation)
- Ensure trauma-informed and culturally safe care practices are followed consistently
- Support daily documentation, reporting, and house routines
- Communicate effectively with senior leadership regarding youth and staff concerns
- Support de-escalation and behaviour management strategies
- Maintain a safe, structured, and supportive residential environment
Qualifications
Required:
- Diploma or Degree in Child and Youth Care, Social Work, Human Services, Psychology, or related field (or equivalent experience)
- Experience working with high-risk youth in residential or community care
- Experience in a leadership, senior, or mentoring role in youth care (asset)
- Experience working with Indigenous youth, families, or communities
- Current First Aid/CPR
- CPI / NVCI / TCI or equivalent crisis intervention certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s Licence and reliable vehicle
- Clear Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) and Child Intervention Check
Assets
- Experience in residential group home settings
- Knowledge of trauma-informed care approaches
- Familiarity with Indigenous cultural supports, Elders, or land-based healing practices
