We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Family Law Legal Assistant to support our legal team in managing family law cases. The ideal candidate will possess strong administrative skills, legal knowledge, and the ability to handle sensitive client information with professionalism. This role involves assisting attorneys with case preparation, document management, and client communication to ensure efficient case progression and excellent client service.
Responsibilities
- Draft, proofread, and review legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings with accuracy and attention to detail
- Conduct legal research using LexisNexis and other resources to support case strategies
- Experience with PC Law and Divorcepath
- Assist with project management tasks related to ongoing family law cases
- Interview clients and witnesses to gather relevant information for case development
- Perform data entry and maintain accurate records of case activities and deadlines
- Organize and file legal documents in accordance with court requirements and firm procedures
- Handle phone inquiries with professional phone etiquette, scheduling appointments, and communicating with clients effectively
- Support attorneys in preparing for hearings, mediations, and meetings by compiling necessary documents and summaries
Qualifications:
- 2+ years' legal firm experience in Family Law.
- Legal Assistant/Law Clerk certification from a recognized institution.
- Familiarity with all filing rules and practice direction of the courts across the GTA.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office, Divorcemate, Adobe.
- Ability to diarize effectively and efficiently.
- Familiarity with rules about service and filing.
- Excellent attention to detail, and time management skills.
