Overview
We are seeking a motivated and dedicated Rebar Apprentice to join our construction team. This entry-level position offers hands-on experience in rebar installation and related concrete and masonry work. This is a rotational position located in Nunavut with accommodations and flights included.
Duties
- Fabricating and installing steel reinforcement bars and mesh within concrete forms
- Blueprint reading - Interpret construction plans and engineering drawings to determine rebar placement, quantity and sizing
- Cutting and bending - Operate tools like metal shears, hacksaws and rod bending machines to shape steel according to exact project specifications
- Tying and securing - assemble cages and fasten rebar together using pliers and specialized tire wire to create a rigid framework
- Placement - Position and anchor the rebar cages into concrete forms, utilizing chairs or spacers to ensure the steel is properly positioned
Qualifications
- High physical stamina and strength to lift heavy steel bars and perform manual labor
- Proficient with hand tools such as rodbuster pliers, wire reels and bolt cutters
- Able to work in high places and outside in all weather conditions
- Attention to detail and commitment to quality
- Familiarity with proper rebar installation techniques
