Hatchery Worker (Summer Student)

Sofina Foods Inc. is seeking a motivated and dependable Summer Student to join our Hatchery team in Winnipeg, Manitoba. This is an excellent opportunity to gain valuable work experience in a fast-paced production environment.
As a Summer Student Hatchery Worker, you will assist with various hatchery operations while maintaining the highest standards of animal welfare, food safety, quality, and workplace safety. Successful candidates must be reliable, physically capable, and comfortable working with live animals.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with daily hatchery operations and chick processing activities.
- Handle chicks in accordance with animal welfare and biosecurity standards.
- Sort, count, and prepare chicks as required.
- Clean and sanitize equipment, workstations, and production areas.
- Follow all food safety, quality assurance, and workplace safety procedures.
- Assist with hatchery production tasks as required.
- Maintain accurate records and complete required documentation.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Skills
- Currently enrolled in high school, college, university, or a recognized post-secondary program.
- Comfortable working with live animals.
- Ability to work in a humid and damp environment.
- Physical ability to stand and walk for extended periods, climb stairs, and perform repetitive tasks.
- Ability to routinely lift and handle products weighing up to 50 lbs.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment, including respirators, goggles, and face masks in designated areas.
- Strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment to attendance.
- Valid Class 5 driver's license and reliable transportation.
