Senior Accountant
Job Summary: We are hiring a Senior Accountant to work with one of our clients in the construction industry! The Senior Accountant plays a key role in supporting financial operations within the real estate development industry. This position handles full-cycle accounting, development cost tracking, financial reporting, and project-level analysis across multiple entities.
As a senior technical contributor, the role ensures accurate accounting for land development and construction projects, while supporting month-end close, budgeting, lender reporting, and compliance. Ideal for an experienced professional with strong project accounting skills who thrives in a hands-on, growing environment.
Job Location: Woodstock, ON
Job Type: Full-time, permanent.
Compensation Structure: $70,000-$90,000 per annum; depending on experience + benefits + RRSP match + more!
Responsibilities:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Manage full-cycle accounting, including GL, AP/AR, and month-end close
- Prepare journal entries, accrals, and reconciliations; investigate variances
- Assist with monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements (ASPE)
- Support consolidated reporting across multiple entities
- Ensure accuracy and consistency of financial records
Project & Development Accounting
- Maintain records for development and capital projects
- Track and reconcile project costs by phase and category
- Support cost capitalization and budget management
- Monitor spending vs. budget and flag variances
- Assist with financing activities, including loans, draws, and reporting
- Maintain fixed assets and depreciation schedules
Budgeting & Analysis
- Support budgeting and forecasting processes
- Prepare variance and financial analysis reports
- Assist with cash flow forecasting and project planning
Compliance & Audit
- Support regulatory filings (HST, payroll, etc.)
- Assist with audit preparation and documentation
- Ensure compliance with policies and internal controls
- Liaise with external auditors and advisors
Systems & Process Improvement
- Maintain accurate data within accounting systems
- Identify and implement process improvements
- Support system upgrades and reporting enhancements
- Document accounting procedures
Collaboration & Support
- Work closely with internal teams and external partners
- Provide financial insights to non-finance stakeholders
- Support ad hoc reporting and analysis
- Contribute to a culture of accuracy and continuous improvement
Skills/Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
· CPA designation required
· 7+ years of progressive accounting experience
· Strong knowledge of full-cycle accounting and ASPE financial reporting
· Experience in real estate or project-based accounting preferred
· Hands-on experience with cost tracking, capitalization, and project accounting
· Advanced Excel skills (reconciliations, analysis, financial modeling)
· Experience supporting audits and working with external advisors
· Detail-oriented with strong time management and multitasking abilities
· Effective communicator, able to collaborate with non-finance teams
· High level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion
