About this role
The Direct Support Staff works under the direction of the Programming Director. The primary responsibility of this role is to provide direct care and support to residents at Choose Life Ministry's Homestead for Hope. Direct Support Staff work closely with residents to foster personal development, spiritual growth, and life skills, while promoting a safe, structured, and supportive environment.
Essential Duties
- Work in alignment with the mission, vision, and core values of Choose Life Ministry
- Supervise residents daily, ensuring their safety, well-being, and adherence to program guidelines
- Maintain appropriate boundaries, enforce rules, and apply discipline when necessary
- Support and mentor residents in their spiritual, emotional, and personal development
- Communicate effectively with residents and staff to ensure consistent and coordinated care
- Respond appropriately to resident and facility emergencies
- Maintain a working knowledge of program procedures and standards as outlined in the Resident Handbook
- Demonstrate sound judgment, flexibility, and problem-solving in a dynamic environment
General Duties
- Attend and participate in staff meetings
- Maintain required communication tools (e.g., cell phone, keys) during shifts
- Maintain accurate documentation, including resident progress notes, daily logs, and incident reports
- Administer and record medications in accordance with established policies and procedures
- Support the daily operations of the home, including transportation, cleanliness, and resident routines
- Perform other related duties as required
Qualifications
- Demonstrates strong Christian character and a commitment to biblical principles
- Basic biblical knowledge and willingness to support faith-based programming
- Ability to lead effectively in a demanding, client-focused ministry environment
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to work collaboratively with a positive team attitude
- Self-motivated with the ability to take initiative
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends
- Demonstrates professionalism, maturity, and responsible behavior
- Proficient in communication via phone, text, email, and in person
- Ability to work in both indoor and outdoor environments, including extended periods of standing and sitting
- Must have 2 years experience in mental health and addictions / recovery treatment
Considered Assets
- First Aid, ASIST, Non-Violent Intervention, or Crisis Prevention certifications
- Completion of the Freedom Session discipleship course (or willingness to complete) as part of the ministry program
Conditions of Employment
- Must currently be a Canadian Resident
- If applying as a professional, must currently be licensed in Saskatchewan and able to practice
- Only hiring women at this time
Pay: $20.00-$25.00 per hour
