ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE
This role reports to Manager, Student Engagement and Leadership.
SUMMARY
KPU Collective is a first-year peer mentorship program for domestic students focused on developing skills to succeed in their first semester and beyond. The KPU Collective Peer Mentor works on a caseload basis, whereby they are assigned a cohort of students, which we call Collectives, who they support throughout the students’ first semester. They facilitate connections with their Collectives in order to increase domestic student success and retention.
The KPU Collective Peer Mentor is responsible for orienting new domestic students to KPU by connecting with them online and in person, building community, providing support by answering questions, and educating about campus services and resources.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Facilitating weekly check ins with assigned Collective
Referring students to Peer Tutors, Advisors, Counsellors, and other KPU Support Services
Responding to student inquiries
Providing weekly online office hours for conversations with students
Hosting monthly socials
Reporting problematic student behaviours or ongoing learning issues within their Collectives to their supervisor
Providing bi-weekly updates to Orientation and Transitions on number of engagements, types of supports needed, and questions asked
QUALIFICATIONS
Minimum KPU CGPA of 2.67 and in good academic standing
Completed a minimum of 2 semesters at KPU and at least 18 credits
Strong interpersonal skills
Strong written and oral communication skills
Ability to work independently as well as part of a team
Preference given to students with experience with one or more of the following:
Orientation Leader
KPU Collective
Learning Centre Peer Tutor
International Student Life Volunteer
FSO Student Ambassador
KPU Community Ambassador
Peer Wellness Team
This position is reserved for KPU Students only.
SALARY INFORMATION
Student Assistants are paid as per the following:
Less than one year of post-secondary (less than 30 credits) – BC Minimum Wage
One year of post-secondary (30-60 credits) – BC Minimum Wage plus 8%
With a post-secondary diploma or degree – BC Minimum Wage plus 21%
