As the Senior Accounting & Finance Specialist, you'll support the daily financial operations of the business while contributing to monthly reporting, KPI tracking, and continuous process improvement. This role offers broad exposure across multiple areas of accounting, making it ideal for someone who enjoys a hands-on environment and wants to make a meaningful contribution.
Key Responsibilities
Financial Accounting & Month-End
- Maintain and reconcile general ledger accounts, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records.
- Prepare journal entries and supporting schedules, including depreciation and amortization.
- Support month-end close activities and assist in preparing monthly financial reporting.
- Contribute to variance analysis, trend reporting, and operational financial insights.
Accounts Payable
- · Process vendor invoices accurately and efficiently.
- Manage vendor payments, EFT transactions, and account reconciliations.
- Resolve vendor statement discrepancies.
Retail Financial Operations
- Prepare bank deposits.
- Review daily cashier reports.
- Process daily sales entries.
- Perform bank and credit card reconciliations.
- Support the day-to-day accounting activities associated with a busy retail operation.
Inventory & Payroll
- Assist with inventory costing, reconciliations, and periodic inventory audits.
- Support the preparation of bi-weekly payroll using the organization's payroll platform.
Compliance & Reporting
- Prepare HST returns and other required government remittances, including WSIB and Employer Health Tax (EHT).
- Ensure compliance with accounting standards, internal controls, and applicable tax regulations.
Business Performance & Process Improvement
- Assist in maintaining and tracking key financial and operational KPIs.
- Support leadership by providing meaningful financial information to assist with decision-making.
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes and enhance operational efficiency.
What We're Looking For

Qualifications
- Diploma or degree in Accounting, Finance, Mathematics, or a related discipline.
- Professional accounting designation (CPA) is considered a strong asset.
- Minimum of five years of progressive accounting experience in a similar position.
- Experience managing month-end close within a small to mid-sized organization.
- Retail industry accounting experience is considered an asset.
Skills & Experience
- Strong understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and reporting requirements.
- Proficiency with QuickBooks and Microsoft Excel.
- Experience working with POS systems is considered an asset.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
- Strong analytical thinking and sound business judgment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build strong working relationships across the organization.
- Comfortable learning new technologies and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency.
