Outdoor Activity Leader & After-School Program Assistant
Renert School is an innovative K-12 private school in NW Calgary. We are looking for an energetic, dependable and warm individual who genuinely enjoys working with young children and being active outdoors.
This is a varied, hands-on position combining three important roles throughout the school day: leading outdoor activities for students in Grades 1-3, supervising students during lunch and outdoor play, and supporting our after-school program.
The ideal candidate is someone who enjoys getting outside in all kinds of weather, knows how to engage groups of young children, and can bring energy, structure and fun to games and activities. Experience as a camp counsellor, recreation leader, coach, childcare worker, educational assistant or in a similar role would be particularly valuable.
ResponsibilitiesOutdoor Activity Leader
- Lead engaging outdoor games and activities for groups of up to 16 students in Grades 1-3.
- Create a positive, inclusive environment where children are active, involved and having fun.
- Adapt games and activities to suit different ages, abilities and interests.
- Encourage participation, teamwork, good sportsmanship and positive social interaction.
- Maintain appropriate supervision and ensure activities are conducted safely.
Lunch & Outdoor Play Supervision
- Supervise students during lunch periods and outdoor play.
- Actively engage with students and help create a safe, positive and enjoyable environment.
- Support students in resolving minor conflicts and following school expectations.
- Monitor student safety and well-being.
After-School Program Assistant
- Support our daily after-school program from approximately 3:45-6:00 p.m.
- Help supervise and engage students in games, activities, and free play.
- Work collaboratively with other after-school staff and student volunteers.
- Communicate professionally and positively with students, parents and staff.
Qualifications
We are looking for someone who:
- Has experience working with young children, particularly students in Kindergarten to Grade 3.
- Enjoys being active and spending significant time outdoors.
- Is comfortable leading games and activities for groups of children.
- Is enthusiastic, patient, responsible and dependable.
- Has strong interpersonal skills and can quickly build positive relationships with children.
- Can remain calm, attentive and professional in a busy school environment.
- Takes initiative and is willing to jump in wherever needed.
- Works well independently and as part of a team.
Experience in summer camps, recreation programs, coaching, childcare, education or youth programs is an asset.
Current Standard First Aid certification is preferred.
The successful candidate will be required to provide a satisfactory criminal record check, including a Vulnerable Sector Check.
Hours and Compensation
Monday-Friday, 11:30 a.m.-6:00 p.m.
$19-$24 per hour, depending on experience and qualifications.
This is a dream position for someone who loves working with young children, enjoys being outdoors, and would rather be leading a game of tag than sitting behind a desk.
