As our project portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Construction Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis.
Position Summary
The Construction Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for construction projects from the initial bidding stage through project award.
The successful candidate will review drawings and specifications, perform quantity takeoffs, obtain and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotations, develop detailed project budgets, and support the project management team throughout the pre-construction and construction phases.
This position requires strong attention to detail, construction knowledge, numerical accuracy, and the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines.
Key Responsibilities
- Review construction drawings, specifications, tender documents, and addenda
- Prepare detailed quantity takeoffs and construction cost estimates
- Develop project budgets for labour, materials, equipment, subcontractors, and other project costs
- Prepare and submit competitive bids, tenders, and quotations
- Solicit pricing from subcontractors and suppliers and evaluate submitted quotations
- Compare subcontractor bids and identify scope gaps, exclusions, and potential risks
- Coordinate with subcontractors, suppliers, consultants, and internal project teams during the bidding process
- Attend site visits and pre-bid meetings when required
- Identify project risks, constructability concerns, and potential cost-saving opportunities
- Maintain accurate estimating records, historical pricing, and cost databases
- Assist with change order pricing and additional work estimates
- Support Project Managers with budgeting, cost analysis, procurement, and project handover after award
- Monitor market pricing and construction cost trends
- Ensure estimates are complete, accurate, competitive, and submitted within required deadlines
Qualifications
- Minimum 3–5 years of experience in construction estimating or a related role
- Experience estimating commercial, institutional, public-sector, or general contracting projects is preferred
- Strong understanding of construction drawings, specifications, materials, methods, and sequencing
- Experience with quantity takeoffs, tendering, subcontractor procurement, and cost analysis
- Strong mathematical, analytical, and problem-solving skills
- Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and construction estimating/project management software
- Ability to manage multiple bids and deadlines simultaneously
- Strong written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to work independently and collaborate effectively with Project Managers and site teams
- Valid Ontario driver's licence and ability to attend project sites when required
- Fluent in English is required; Mandarin or Cantonese is a strong asset
