Best Friends Children’s Centre is seeking a reliable and adaptable On-Call ECE or ECE Assistant to provide substitute coverage across our licensed childcare programs.
This position requires flexibility and the ability to confidently step into different classrooms and routines, working with children from Infant & Toddler through Preschool and School Age. Availability to accept shifts on short notice is important.
For the right candidate, there may be an opportunity to move into a permanent position based on performance, reliability and team fit.
What We’re Looking For
- Valid BC ECE or ECE Assistant certification
- Experience in a licensed childcare setting preferred
- Comfortable working with a variety of ages and programs
- Flexible and available for on-call shifts, including short-notice coverage
- Reliable, punctual and professional
- Responsive, energetic and actively engaged with children
- Adaptable and able to learn classroom routines quickly
- Strong communication and teamwork skills
- Sound judgment and a strong commitment to child safety
- Current First Aid and ability to complete a Criminal Record Check
Key Responsibilities
Depending on the classroom and shift, responsibilities may include:
- Providing safe, responsive and developmentally appropriate care
- Maintaining active supervision, accurate head counts and required staff-to-child ratios
- Supporting classroom routines, transitions, meals, naps, diapering and toileting as appropriate to the age group
- Engaging children in planned activities, play and outdoor experiences
- Supporting positive behaviour, social development and conflict resolution
- Following individual classroom schedules and educator direction
- Communicating professionally with children, families and colleagues
- Completing required attendance, incident and classroom documentation
- Maintaining a clean, safe and organized environment
- Following Best Friends policies and all applicable childcare licensing, health and safety requirements
