The Community Education Outreach Worker plays a key role in mentoring youth and supporting their educational and personal development. This role is vital in connecting with youth, their families, and schools to support the educational and wholistic needs of students who may struggle with absenteeism. This individual will work to reduce absenteeism, mentor students to complete their K-12 education, and support the future planning of post-secondary education and/or employment. As a representative of ICYA's frontline ministry, the Community Education Outreach Worker is committed to integrating biblical principles into their work, building relationships that reflect Christ's love, and promoting reconciliation in the community.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide Christ-centered mentoring to youth and their families struggling with absenteeism, encouraging spiritual, emotional, and academic growth.
- Liaise with schools and other community agencies to provide support and individualized learning plans to students.
- Deliver established program curriculum and modules while incorporating biblical values and teachings.
- Guide youth through the progressive stages of the Engage Education program.
- Collaborate and partner with organizations in the North End that may benefit youth and their families; connect participants to relevant resources.
- Conduct research and collect data related to absenteeism as directed.
- Enter and keep records of accurate data using the internal database.
- Transport students in programming to and/or from school, creating opportunities for discipleship and relationship-building.
- Support ICYA’s collaborative fundraising approach (Unity Fund) by participating in shared ministry fundraising efforts including
- Serve where needed outside of standard job tasks.
Qualifications
- A personal relationship with Jesus Christ and a commitment to living out a Christ-centered life in alignment with ICYA's mission and core values.
- A high school diploma and completed or partial post-secondary education, or relevant education and experience
- Experience working with students in educational or ministry settings, particularly with high needs and at-risk youth.
- Proven ability to build positive relationships with youth, families, and colleagues, demonstrating the love and compassion of Christ.
- Experience working as part of a team, especially in ministry or nonprofit settings.
- Understanding of Indigenous culture and its generational impacts, with sensitivity to how the gospel brings reconciliation and healing.
- Experience planning and implementing educational or ministry-focused programming.
- A Valid Class 5 Driver’s license with a satisfactory Driver Abstract. Willingness to obtain a Class 4 license.
