We are seeking a Controller to act as the strategic financial partner for our operations in Grande Prairie. This is a high-impact, hands-on role where you will support leadership, influence profitability, and help drive operational excellence in a dynamic and sometimes fast-paced environment.
The Opportunity
Based in Grande Prairie, AB, the Controller will bridge the gap between operational teams and corporate finance. You will work closely with the leadership team focusing on working capital optimization, and delivering insights that support strong business performance.
In this role, you will also provide oversight and direction to a small finance team consisting of three part-time direct reports, ensuring consistent execution of core accounting and administrative processes.
This position is ideal for a self-starter who enjoys technical accounting while remaining closely connected to day-to-day business operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Partnership: Act as a key financial advisor, preparing budgets, forecasts, and profitability analysis.
- Project & Cost Oversight: Monitor project performance by aligning estimates with contractual requirements and tracking financial outcomes.
- Financial Integrity: Prepare month-end and year-end close processes and maintain strong internal controls.
- Team Leadership: Supervise and support three part-time direct reports, ensuring accurate execution of accounting, reporting, and administrative functions.
- Operational Support: Review payroll inputs (time and rates), oversee expense coding, and approve credit card transactions.
- Process Improvement: Enhance financial review processes within the ERP system and identify opportunities for improved reporting efficiency.
- Financial Governance & Reporting: Oversee accounts receivable management, support audit processes, and ensure accurate, timely financial reporting and compliance.
What You Bring
- Professional Designation: CPA (or equivalent) required.
- Experience: 5+ years of hands-on accounting experience, ideally in energy services, industrial, or rental operations.
- Technical Skills: Advanced Excel proficiency and strong knowledge of GAAP; experience with DSI or similar ERP systems considered an asset.
- Analytical Ability: Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret data, identify trends, and recommend solutions.
- Independence: Comfortable operating as the primary finance lead in a dynamic environment while managing a small, part-time team.
Pay: $90,000.00-$110,000.00 per year
