The Opportunity:
As a key member of the management team, the Controller reports to the Retail Principal and Vice President of Operations and plays an integral role in the management of Bema Autosport BMW.
This position is responsible for leading the day-to-day accounting and financial operations for the group of companies, including the planning, implementation, management, and oversight of all financial and accounting activities.
The Responsibilities:
- Directs and oversees the timely and accurate preparation of month-end financial statements, reports and analysis;
- Directs, oversees and coordinates the year-end review and tax compliance process with external accountants;
- Coordinates the corporate budgeting process including Business Plans and forecasts;
- Provides executive management with advice on the financial implications of business activities;
- Works closely with the General Manager and department managers to provide and interpret financial reports and provide overall financial advice;
- Oversees financial strategies including cash flow management, banking and financial relationships;
- Takes a lead role in accounts payable, accounts receivable and payroll functions, including invoice coding, data entry, approvals, vendor communications, payment scheduling, reconciliations, and resolution of discrepancies while remaining in compliance with company policies;
- Ensures legal and regulatory compliance regarding all financial matters;
- Maintains strong internal control systems;
- Leads, trains, and supervises administrative and accounting support staff;
- Oversees accounting and financial reporting for a small portfolio of affiliated companies in commercial real estate;
- Coordinates operating cost recoveries and reconciliations across the real estate portfolio; and
- Consolidates financial reporting across multiple related entities for ownership/executive review.
The Candidate:
The ideal candidate is a CPA with 4 – 7 years of progressive accounting and finance experience. Previous leadership experience, including coaching and developing team members, is preferred along with the ability to establish and enhance financial policies, processes, and procedures. Experience within the automotive dealership industry and commercial real estate portfolios is considered an asset.
