Job Overview
We are a leading sports retailer and supplier of custom sports uniforms and team apparel, and we’re looking for a Controller who is passionate about and committed to delivering accurate, timely, and insightful financial information. In this role, you will be responsible for financial reporting, bookkeeping, payables, receivables, payroll, cash flow forecasting, budgeting, inventory controls, revenue assurance, and margin analysis. While the owners are both CPAs, this role will initially be considered a single-person finance function. You will play a critical role in building strong financial foundations and supporting business decision-making.
The ideal candidate has strong analytical and communication skills, a high level of attention to detail, and a proactive, ownership mindset. They are highly organized, comfortable working with data and systems, able to manage multiple priorities, and can work independently while partnering effectively with the leadership team.
Key Responsibilities
· Prepare accurate and timely financial reports to support business performance and decision-making
· Manage payables and receivables
· Manage day-to-day bookkeeping
· Approve invoicing
· Develop and manage cash flow forecasts and budgets
· Establish and maintain strong financial controls and processes
· Oversee inventory controls, valuation, and integrity
· Conduct revenue assurance and margin analysis to ensure profitability
· Monitor and report on key financial and operational KPIs
· Provide purchasing oversight and ensure cost controls are maintained
· Review and audit invoices for accuracy and compliance
· Partner with leadership to provide insights and recommendations based on financial data
· GST filings, Income tax coordination with external accountants
Qualifications & Experience
· Designation preferred
· Prior experience in a Controller or senior accounting/finance role, preferably in retail, manufacturing, or inventory-driven environments
· Strong understanding of financial reporting, controls, and analysis
· Experience with inventory accounting, costing, and margin analysis
· Highly analytical with strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills
· Ability to manage multiple priorities and work independently in a fast-paced environment
· Strong communication skills with the ability to translate financial insights into business decisions
· Proficiency in accounting systems and tools (e.g., ERP systems, Excel, financial reporting software)
· Positive attitude, ownership mindset, and a focus on continuous improvement
