FACILITY MANAGER
REPORTS TO: Director of Operations & Financial Services
POSITION TYPE: Full-time (5 days per week – 35 hr/wk), Monday to Friday. Evening, weekend, and after-hours emergency response may be required.
COMPENSATION: Salary range: $65,000–$72,000, commensurate with experience, plus benefits, OMERS pension, and free on-site parking.

The Facility Manager plays a critical role in ensuring the Gallery remains safe, efficient, and welcoming through operational leadership, technical expertise, and collaboration across departments.
ABOUT THE ROLE
The Facility Manager leads the operation and stewardship of the Gallery's building, grounds, and technical infrastructure, including preventative maintenance, building systems, contractor management, health and safety, emergency preparedness, capital repairs, and operational planning. This is a hands-on leadership role requiring flexibility to support evenings, weekends, and after-hours emergencies.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Facility Operations & Asset Stewardship
· Ensure Gallery facilities, technical systems, and operational spaces are maintained in a state of readiness to support daily operations, exhibitions, public programs, rentals, and special events.
· Lead the day-to-day operation, maintenance, and stewardship of the Gallery building, grounds, and building systems.
· Coordinate capital repairs, renovation and facility improvement projects.
· Manage contractor procurement, performance, service standards, and contract compliance for building systems and maintenance services, including but not limited to HVAC, electrical, plumbing, elevators, fire protection, security, janitorial, and mechanical systems in collaboration with the Director of Operations & Financial Services.
· Prepare and monitor facility operating budgets in collaboration with the Director of Operations & Financial Services.
· Procure facility equipment, maintenance supplies, and technical services in accordance with AGB purchasing policies and approved budgets.
· Serve as the primary liaison with the City of Burlington, external contractors, consultants, and service providers.
Facility Maintenance
· Establish and maintain high standards of facility appearance, functionality, cleanliness, and operational performance.
· Maintain parking areas, landscaping, horticultural maintenance, and snow removal coordination.
· Maintain building documentation, operating manuals, floor plans, key systems, and asset records.
· Oversee preventative maintenance, inspections, repairs, lifecycle planning, renewal planning, and proactive monitoring practices that minimize operational disruption and reduce emergency repairs.
Health, Safety & Emergency Preparedness
· Lead the Joint Health and Safety Committee and ensure compliance with all applicable legislation and organizational policies in collaboration with the Director of Operations & Financial Services.
· Serve as the Gallery's designated Fire Marshal and First Aider.
· Develop, implement, and maintain emergency preparedness, business continuity, and environmental sustainability plans.
· Respond to facility emergencies, security incidents, and after-hours operational issues as required.
Gallery Technical Operations
· Support exhibition installation, deinstallation, fabrication, lighting, audiovisual systems, public programs, rentals, and special events through technical coordination and operational support.
· Manage gallery lighting, audiovisual systems, exhibition spaces, workshops, art storage, and technical equipment.
· Coordinate artwork movement and storage with curatorial and collections staff.
· Maintain exhibition infrastructure, studio and technical equipment with Studio Technicians.
· Support exhibition planning and budgeting through procurement of materials and services.
Leadership & Collaboration
· Supervise custodial staff including scheduling, onboarding, coaching, and performance management.
· Coordinate courtyard and conservatory volunteers.
· Collaborate across departments to support seamless operations and visitor experience.
· Implement initiatives that improve energy efficiency, environmental performance, waste reduction, and long-term asset sustainability.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
· Represent the AGB professionally while supporting the Gallery's mission, vision, values, and organizational priorities.

· Take on additional duties as assigned to support the gallery’s success.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
· Experience managing facilities, building operations, or property maintenance within a public, institutional, commercial, or cultural environment.
· Strong knowledge of building systems, preventative maintenance, contractor management, and health & safety.
· Experience supervising staff and contractors.
· Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.
· First Aid and CPR certification is an asset; training will be provided if required.
· WHMIS certification.
· Working at Heights certification.
· Joint Health & Safety Committee Certification (Level I and II) or willingness to obtain.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
· Primarily based onsite within a busy public gallery.
· Regular movement throughout the building and grounds.
· Physical activity including lifting and climbing is required.
· Must be available to respond to operational issues and emergencies outside regular business hours, as required.
