Diverse, fulfilling, and senior-level Human Resources role with a complex and exciting global company headquartered in Vancouver. Opportunity to directly impact employee engagement, employment branding, and overall business performance at a corporate level. Hybrid in downtown Vancouver.
Our client is a global organization with a complex, exciting, and interesting story- SWIM can fill you in! The company is based in Vancouver, with major operations overseas. The employee population size in Vancouver is approximately 60 people, in a mix of corporate departments such as accounting & finance, legal, administration, IT, etc. This company has a reputation in Vancouver and beyond for hiring top talent, and for providing their employees with interesting and challenging work in a positive and professional environment.
Our client is seeking a new
HR Manager who will be the dedicated HR expert for the ~60 employees here in Vancouver. This is a very exciting opportunity to contribute directly to an evolving corporate culture, and to establish an employment brand and robust employee value proposition for the Canadian employees.
The HR Manager will be working autonomously in the Vancouver HQ, with 2 direct reports (Coordinator level, to support HR administrative work). The HR Manager will report directly into a wonderful HR Director (who does not work in Canada), and will have other HR peers in other countries. The HR Manager will also have a dotted line reporting relationship with the executives in Vancouver, including the CEO.
Responsibilities are very diverse and include Canadian employee relations, performance management/development, employee engagement, HR system usage and optimization, HR analytics, payroll processing oversight (including onboarding and exiting employees from the payroll as needed), recruitment & onboarding, compensation analysis, benefits administration, learning & development, and HR projects.
The company has an outsourced Canadian payroll vendor that calculates and processes the payroll (all Canadian, all salaried); however, the HR Manager will be overseeing the payroll inputs and reviewing the payroll reports to ensure the payroll is being processed properly and the appropriate taxes are being applied/deducted.
SWIM will provide interested candidates with a thorough job description.
We are seeking a candidate with 5 to 10 years’ of progressive HR experience, with at least 3 years in a senior-level generalist capacity. Prior specialization in a certain area of HR (HRIS analysis, recruitment, employee relations, comp & bens, etc.) could work well for this role, as long as the candidate has a diverse HR tool kit and feels comfortable taking on all areas of this holistic HR portfolio.
Candidates must have Canadian HR employment law knowledge and Canadian HR work experience as the new HR Manager will be considered the go-to expert on Canadian-specific HR matters. Experience working in a global company is of course highly preferred, but candidates may also come from a mid-size BC-only organization with the eagerness to gain global exposure.
Given the payroll oversight component of this role, we’re ideally seeking a candidate who has previously overseen a mid-size Canadian salaried payroll that was processed by an external vendor. Candidates will need to be detail oriented, aware of BC payroll legislation, and “not afraid of numbers.”
Qualified candidates will have a friendly and clear communication style and will be confident being the “go-to” primary contact in a 60-person office to answer any and all HR questions and supporting senior leaders.
Headquartered in the centre of downtown Vancouver’s financial district. Beautiful corporate offices with a great view! For the first several months, the HR Manager will work from the office full time as they establish relationships with the employees, learn the business and the systems, and contribute directly and in-person to the corporate culture. Longer-term, the HR Manager can choose to work from home and from office on a hybrid schedule (2 days/week at-home, 3 days/week in-office)
Base salary commensurate with HR experience, skills, and education- please discuss with SWIM. The range is likely to come in at
$100,000 to $120,000. The HR Manager will receive a
performance-based bonus, an
RRSP match, a pension plan, a flexible health allowance, generous health benefits, and paid time off that starts at 3.5 weeks and goes up from there.
