About Us
At Blythe Dale Sand & Gravel, we are a locally operated aggregates company, specializing in sand, gravel, and related materials for construction and infrastructure projects.
We operate a fleet of heavy equipment and trucks and are committed to safety, reliability, and quality service.
About the Role
We are seeking a reliable, self-motivated Loader / Plant Operator to join our team at our Cayuga pit. This site is a limestone quarry where Blythe Dale drills, crushes, sizes, and washes material in-house.
The successful candidate will primarily support plant operations, including operating a wheel loader, completing daily safety checks, monitoring production, and assisting with plant start-up and shutdown.
The role is best suited for someone who enjoys working independently, has a strong safety mindset, and is comfortable operating equipment in an active quarry environment. Experience in the aggregate industry, particularly with screening, loader operation, or plant equipment, is considered a strong asset; however, Blythe Dale is willing to provide site-specific training to the right individual.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a wheel loader to feed the plant, move material, and support stockpiling.
- Operate and monitor plant equipment, including the screening plant, belt conveyors, generator, and related site equipment.
- Complete daily pre-checks on the plant and equipment.
- Record safety checks and required documentation using Site Docs.
- Start the generator or water pump and complete plant start-up procedures.
- Complete a walk-around of the plant and work area to ensure equipment and site conditions are safe and ready for operation.
- Monitor the plant during operation; watching for holes in screens, belt issues, blockages, or other production concerns.
- Feed the plant and monitor material flow through stackers.
- Complete production reporting, including tasks performed and tonnages produced.
- Complete end-of-day shutdown procedures.
- Perform basic servicing tasks; greasing, belt checks, basic adjustments, and cleaning screens.
- Support other areas of the Cayuga site when required.
- Interact professionally with customers, truckers, and other site visitors when loading or supporting site activity.
Skills & Qualifications
- 3-5 years’ experience of equipment operating in construction or aggregates (preferred; willing to train the right candidate).
- Valid Ontario driver’s license with an insurable driving abstract.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Ability to work autonomously with limited direct supervision.
- Self-starter with strong motivation, dependability, and accountability.
- Strong commitment to safety, completing documentation, and following site procedures.
- Ability to complete pre-checks, safety records, production reports, and basic equipment checks.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to identify basic plant or equipment issues.
- Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to improve.
Preferred
- Previous aggregate industry experience.
- Experience running a loader, screening plant, wash plant, or similar plant equipment.
- Experience with excavators, rock trucks, skid-steers, or crushing plants.
Working Conditions
- Outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise and dust.
- Active limestone quarry environment with plant equipment, conveyors, loaders, trucks, and crushing activity.
- Work is performed on a geographically spread-out site with a small team, typically four (4) employees onsite, with additional crews present as needed.
- Role requires a high level of independence.
- Standard hours are Monday to Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; Saturdays are optional.
