POSITION TITLE: Child and Youth Care Worker
JOB TYPE: Full - time (36 hour weekly)
PAY RATE:$ 24.73
Reports To: Program Manager
POSITION SUMMARY
The Child & Youth Care Worker (CYCW) provides person-centred, rights-based, and trauma-informed support to children and youth with developmental disabilities, medical needs, and/or behavioural and emotional support needs within a licensed residential setting.
The role focuses on health, safety, dignity, choice, inclusion, and individualized support outcomes, in alignment with Fraser Residence Ltd. policies, licensing requirements and Ministry of Family Child Care Regulations.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES1. Personal, Medical & Daily Care
· Provide respectful, age-appropriate, and person-centred personal care in accordance with each child or youth’s Individual Care Plan, daily routines, cultural preferences, and assessed support needs.
· Support activities of daily living, including hygiene, bathing, grooming, dressing, toileting, continence care, while promoting dignity, privacy, and choice.
· Administer medications safely and accurately in accordance with training, physician orders, medication administration records, and organizational policy; monitor for effectiveness, side effects, and adverse reactions, and report concerns promptly.
· Support and accompany children and youth to medical, dental, and therapeutic appointments, ensuring relevant information is shared, follow-up instructions are documented, and care recommendations are communicated to the team.
· Prepare and support meals and snacks in accordance with dietary requirements, allergies, texture modifications, nutritional plans, and individual preferences, while encouraging participation and independence where appropriate.
· Maintain a clean, safe, and nurturing living environment by following health, safety, infection control, and housekeeping procedures to support overall well-being and risk reduction.
2. Behavioral & Emotional Support
· Follow Behaviour Support Plans, Safety Plans, and Individual Care Plans consistently.
· Support emotional regulation, coping skills, and positive behaviour development using trauma-informed and strength-based practices.
· Identify triggers, early warning signs, and effective support strategies.
· Respond calmly, respectfully, and professionally during periods of distress or behavioural escalation.
· Maintain professional boundaries while building trusting, supportive relationships.
· Model respectful communication, emotional awareness, and positive social interactions.
3. Developmental Support & Life Skills
· Support age-appropriate independence in daily living skills such as:
o Personal care routines
o Meal preparation and clean-up
o Household responsibilities
o Money awareness and budgeting (as appropriate)
· Encourage participation in education, recreation, and skill-building activities.
· Support individualized goals identified in care and service plans.
· Promote self-advocacy, choice-making, and participation in decision-making.
4. Community Inclusion & Social Engagement
· Facilitate participation in community activities, outings, and recreational programs.
· Support positive peer interactions and relationship-building.
· Encourage cultural identity, family connections, and meaningful social engagement.
· Represent Fraser Residence Ltd. professionally in the community.
· Support safe transportation using agency vehicles when required.
5. Documentation & Communication
· Complete accurate, timely, and objective documentation, including:
o Daily progress notes
o Incident and injury reports
o Medication administration records
o Communication logs
· Communicate relevant information to supervisors, team members, and professionals in a timely manner.
· Participate in team meetings, shift handovers, supervision, and care planning.
· Maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with FOIPPA and agency policy.
· Ensure documentation supports continuity of care, accountability, and quality improvement.
6. Health, Safety & Professional Practice
· Follow all organizational policies, procedures, and emergency response plans.
· Respond appropriately to medical concerns, incidents, and critical situations.
· Participate in emergency drills and required training.
· Use agency equipment, vehicles, and resources safely and responsibly.
· Maintain a safe, organized, and supportive home environment.
· Uphold Fraser Residence Ltd.’s Code of Conduct, ethical standards, and professional expectations.
REQUIRED TRAINING & CERTIFICATIONS
(Current or obtained upon hire)
· First Aid with CPR-C- Prior First Shift
· Medication Administration (Company provided)
· CPI / NVCI (Company Provided)
· FOIPPA & Confidentiality Training
· Ongoing training as required to maintain competence with Licensing Regulations and CARF.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
· Clear Criminal Record Check – Vulnerable Sector
· MCFD Hub
· Valid Class 5 Driver’s License with clean abstract
· Ability to safely operate agency vehicles
· Willingness to carry and respond to an agency phone during shifts
EMPLOYMENT CONDITIONS
· Ability to work scheduled shifts including days, evenings, overnights, weekends, and holidays.
· Participation in orientation, ongoing training, staff meetings and performance reviews.
· Commitment to reliability, consistency, and professional conduct.
