Job Overview
The Driver Lead oversees daily driver operations, ensuring compliance with safety standards, schedules, and company policies. This hands-on role includes monitoring performance, delivering training, and fostering a strong safety culture through evaluations and meetings. The ideal candidate will maintain a regular delivery route while supporting fleet maintenance, incident reporting, and continuous driver improvement. Flexibility, leadership, and a strong commitment to safety and service excellence are essential.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Supervise daily operations of company drivers, ensuring adherence to routes, policy and procedure, schedules, and safety standards.
- Monitor driver performance and punctuality, safety compliance, and customer service.
- Conduct regular ride-along and spot checks to evaluate and reinforce performance.
- Maintain a regular delivery route.
- Deliver onboarding and ongoing training programs for new and existing drivers.
- Conduct safety training, DOT regulations, vehicle inspections – pre/post Trips, and emergency procedures.
- Promote a strong safety culture through regular meetings, toolbox talks, and audits.
- Maintain accurate training records and certification documentation.
- Update training materials to reflect current industry standards and regulations.
- Ensure compliance with company policies and local transportation laws.
- Investigate accidents and prepare incident reports.
- Collaborate with fleet maintenance team to report vehicle issues and ensure timely service.
- Assist with any other tasks as required.
Job Requirements
- Punctual and Reliable.
- Should have reliable transportation to get to/from work.
- Ability to sit, stand, walk, and drive for extended periods.
- Capable of lifting 75 lbs independently and up to 150 lbs with assistance.
- Must successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Must adhere to all safety protocols, including the proper use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Safety vests are provided by the organization; however, employees are required to supply their own steel-toe footwear.
Qualifications and Skills
- High school diploma or GED required, additional education or certifications
- Valid [Class 5 Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Strong knowledge of DOT regulations, fleet safety procedures, and driver best practices.
- Excellent communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours in line with business needs.
