Location: Burnaby School District (SD41), British Columbia

Schedule: Weekday afternoons (4:00–5:00 PM)
Compensation: $20–$25 per hour (based on experience)
About Mindora Learning
Mindora Learning provides engaging after-school enrichment programs for children in Grades K–7 across Burnaby schools. Our programs focus on science, arts, music, sport, mindfulness, and personal development — always delivered in an inclusive, child-centred environment.
About the Role
As a Mindfulness Facilitator, you will lead structured, age-appropriate mindfulness sessions for children ages 5–12 (Grades K–7). Every session teaches mindfulness skills explicitly — how to breathe, how to notice thoughts and feelings without judgment, how to settle the nervous system, and how to return to the present moment. This is a structured enrichment program, not counselling. Facilitators teach mindfulness practices, not therapy, in a safe and consistent after-school group environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver Mindfulness sessions covering breathing techniques, body awareness, focused attention, and calm-down practices.
- Structure every session across three blocks: group check-in circle, core mindfulness practice, and a closing grounding activity.
- Facilitate the group check-in circle using a simple feelings scale or weather metaphors — never forced, always normalising self-awareness and helping identify children who may need extra care.
- Teach breathing techniques explicitly and accessibly, from balloon breathing (younger children) to box breathing and 4-7-8 breathing (older children), with simple age-appropriate explanations of why it works.
- Teach focused attention and body-scan practices that help children notice physical sensations, settle restlessness, and return to the present moment.
- Guide children through visualisation and calming imagery exercises appropriate to their age group.
- Teach mindful movement — gentle stretching, walking meditation, or yoga-inspired activities — as a way to bring awareness into the body.
- Close every session with a quiet, grounding activity that helps children transition calmly back into their afternoon.
- Maintain a clear boundary between structured mindfulness enrichment programming and therapeutic or counselling support at all times.
- Communicate regularly with the Program Coordinator regarding student wellbeing, group dynamics, and program outcomes.
- Follow all Burnaby School District policies, safety procedures, and child-safeguarding requirements.
QualificationsRequired
- Degree, diploma, certificate, or equivalent experience in Education, Child and Youth Care, Yoga, Mindfulness, or a related field.
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children ages 5–12 in educational, camp, after-school, or youth development settings.
- Experience explicitly facilitating mindfulness or breathwork programs for children — not incidentally embedded in other programming.
- Ability to teach breathing techniques, body-scan practices, focused attention, and calming visualisations in an age-appropriate and structured way.
- Understanding of the distinction between structured mindfulness enrichment programming and therapeutic/counselling support.
- Warm, calm, and consistent facilitation style that creates a safe and settled group environment for children.
- Ability to adapt content and pacing for a mixed K–7 age group within a single session.
- Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening.
- Emergency First Aid & CPR Certification (or willingness to obtain before start date).
Preferred
- Formal training in a children's mindfulness program (MindUP, .b Foundations, Mindful Schools, or equivalent).
- Training in children's yoga, mindful movement, or somatic practices for kids.
- Training in trauma-informed practice and understanding of how trauma affects children's ability to regulate and settle.
- Experience running group check-in circles or morning meeting formats in school or OST settings.
- Experience working with children from diverse cultural backgrounds, including Burnaby SD41's multicultural community.
Why Join Mindora?
- Competitive hourly compensation.
- Flexible part-time schedule — 1–2 afternoons per week.
- Opportunity to teach foundational mindfulness skills with lasting impact on children's calm, focus, and wellbeing.
- Supportive and collaborative team environment.
- All program materials, activity guides, and session resources provided.
