Role Summary
Reporting to the Executive Director, the Healthcare Services Manager enhances the dignity and quality of life of our clients through their responsibility for managing the healthcare services, infection prevention and control (IPAC) services, and providing assistance with the operational and scheduling needs of Good Shepherd Ministries.

Duties and Responsibilities
- To provide service in a dignified, respectful, and hospitable manner that reflects the charism of St. John of God, the Mission, Vision and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries and which integrates non-discrimination/anti-oppression/anti-racism frameworks.
- To assume operational and managerial responsibility for program service delivery as needed.
- As part of the Management Team, exercise confidentiality discretion and sound judgement in all management affairs.
- To respond to medical emergencies for clients, co-workers, and volunteers; and summon appropriate assistance.
- To schedule and provide appropriate medical attention as required by clients; and arranging appropriate assistance and accompaniment for clients to medical appointment as required.
- To manage and supervise appropriate client care plan and follow-up with other healthcare/personal care providers as required.
- To lead the development and implementation of IPAC protocols at Good Shepherd Ministries; and to maintain protocols to evolving standards and best practices.
- To develop, maintain, implement, and promote IPAC training and education for co-workers, volunteers and develop IPAC education sessions for clients.
- To conduct clients’ health care and risk assessments.
- To identify department purchasing needs for annual budget planning.
- To conduct ongoing Risk/Hazard analysis and provide appropriate leadership to eliminate or minimize risk in the workplace and assist with all accident/injury investigations in consultation with the JHSC.
- To oversee COVID and other infectious disease testing as required by Public Health, and to lead and manage infectious diseases during a declared outbreak.
- To promote, organize and oversee the annual and/or one-off onsite immunization events as recommended by Public Health for co-workers, clients and volunteers.
- To carry out regular checks and documentation to ensure that IPAC protocols are effectively and efficiently maintained by all co-workers, volunteers and clients alike.
- To carry out regular checks and documentation to ensure that all co-workers and volunteers are properly trained in the correct use, donning and doffing and disposal of Personal Protection Equipment.
- Consistently presents the Good Shepherd Centres and its services in a positive manner and adheres to customer service guidelines and procedures as established by the Good Shepherd.
- To ensure that all new hires meet the required immunization and IPAC protocols and policies.
- To liaise with the City of Toronto SSHA department, Toronto Public Health, ICHA, Ministry of Health/Ontario Health, Joint Health and Safety Committee and Ministry of Labour pertaining on issues related to Infection Protection and Control.
- To co-ordinate immediate remediation of any IPAC related deficiencies identified by SSHA’s contracted IPAC specialists, SSHA’s quality assurance team, food safety, or any other inspecting authority.
- To liaise with Public Health, City of Toronto SSHA and other Healthcare agencies in providing best practices in providing IPAC protocols.
- To maintain IPAC statistics including type and frequency of infections of clients, co- workers, and volunteers and to regularly review these statistics to analyze trends, risks and remediation.
- To be responsible for Quality Assurance Assessments pertaining to Healthcare and IPAC Services, and to assist as required for other areas.
- To provide regular reports as directed.
- To develop professional relationships with other agencies to enhance Healthcare Services and Infection Prevention and Control protocols.
- To participate in infection control research to improve and update infection control strategies with evidence based, best practice.
- To develop, maintain and administer the Medication Policy, including guidelines for the distribution and safe keeping of medication for clients of Good Shepherd Ministries.
- To maintain accurate records, documents, and files as per the Ontario College of Nurses, accepted medical standards, and those of Good Shepherd Ministries
Skill, Nature and Scope
Actively practices the Mission, Vision, and Values of Good Shepherd Ministries.
· Current registration in good standing as a Registered Nurse (RN) with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
· Has successfully completed or is enrolled in an Infection Prevention and Control program.
· Experience/Education in Post-Graduate studies in Infection Prevention and Control.
· Further professional development in management and/or other healthcare courses such as gerontology, palliative care, foot care, skin care and wound management, Alzheimer’s, dementia care and psycho-geriatrics are an asset.
· A minimum of 1 year of experience working as a nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a healthcare setting.
· Strong knowledge of the LTCHA and Regulations, Ministry Long Term Care Directives, the Registered Health Professionals Act, Narcotic Control Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act and other applicable legislation.
· Pursue certification through the Certification Board of Infection Control and Epidemiology.
· An ability to appreciate the complexity and demands of ‘hard to serve’ individuals from diverse backgrounds.
· Strong documentation skills and computer knowledge. Proficiency in Microsoft Office programs (Word/Excel/Publisher/Power Point).
· Excellent interpersonal, communication and organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple tasks and set priorities, as well as maintaining teamwork which may include sharing work overload.
· Self-motivated, self-directed and possess the necessary skills and confidence to work in a busy, demanding work environment and deal with difficult client groups.
· Ability to work effectively as a member of a team with the ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
Pay: $65,000.00-$85,000.00 per year
