Join our team and play a vital role in keeping our fleet running smoothly! This position offers a hands-on opportunity to work with a variety of vehicles and equipment, contributing directly to the efficiency of our operations.
As an Auto Service Person II/Tow Tech, you’ll focus on towing automotive vehicles and equipment, including vehicle recovery and delivery. You'll be responsible for routine inspections and non-mechanical servicing.
What will you do?

Deliver units to commercial vendors, and operate a wide range of units to assist in diagnosis and repair

Tow or drive defective automotive equipment to a repair shop

Operate four (4) different types of tow trucks: Light duty, single axle deck, tandem axle deck, and Tractor Landoll Trailer

Perform non-mechanical servicing and installation of components including batteries, fuses, light bulbs, lenses, heater hoses, signal light flashers, radiators, and windshield wiper blades

Provide vehicle boosting services and complete field servicing as assigned

Participate in an on-call rotation (one week per month, Monday to Monday)

Visually inspect vehicle components such as tie rod ends, universal joints, brake hoses, exhaust systems, and oil and coolant systems for excessive wear or leaks, and report findings to a Journeyperson or Foreperson

Greet and assist customers in defining and identifying problems and obtaining services offered by the Branch

Carry out additional responsibilities as needed, including cohort flagging tasks
Qualifications:
-
Grade Ten (10) or equivalent
-
Some experience in servicing automotive vehicles and equipment
-
Five (5) or more years of experience in towing and roadside assistance is preferred
Assets:
-
WreckMaster Level 2-3 certification (considered an asset if working directly in our tow shop)

Knowledge of load securement standards
-
Familiarity with Hours of Service regulations

Proof or letter of experience in the towing industry

Completion of traffic flagging coursework
Skills required for success:
-
Capable of performing all related operational and servicing duties

Proficiency in using Fleet Management System software (M5)

Experience with communication software applications, such as Gmail

Skilled in developing and maintaining strong working relationships

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions related to the duties

Good physical condition and stamina to perform manual tasks

Conditions of Employment:

Successful candidates must be fit for a respirator, and compliance with the City of Edmonton's Code of Practice for Respiratory Protective Equipment, including medical monitoring, is a requirement of this position

Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), such as wearing steel-toed boots, is a requirement for this position

Hire is dependent on an Enhanced Security Check and/or a Vulnerable Sector Check satisfactory to the City of Edmonton, and there may be a cost associated with this requirement

Capable of passing a job-related physical abilities evaluation (F.A.R.E. test) and a pre-employment City medical examination

Valid Alberta Class 1 or Class 3 driver's licence with air brakes certification (Q endorsement)

Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
