Don't miss this chance to join our Highways team! We are presently seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Civil Field Operations Assistant to support our field operations team. This position requires the candidate to work at times in remote locations. You must be able to travel and be away from home for extended periods. Work will be primarily in Saskatchewan.
What is the role?
Reporting to the Foreperson and Superintendent, the Civil Field Operations Assistant is responsible for supporting daily construction activities through a combination of field coordination, traffic accommodation, reporting, documentation, crew support, and administrative duties. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience in civil construction while developing operational and leadership skills.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Provides and maintains safe and effective traffic accommodation for the motoring public.
- Sets up, repositions, and dismantles traffic control devices including barricades, pylons, signage, and digital message boards.
- Removes or covers traffic control signage when construction activities are suspended or completed.
- Coordinates the rental, tracking, and return of traffic control equipment and signage.
- Conducts site inspections and documents daily construction activities.
- Tracks daily production quantities, material usage, and project progress.
- Collects, tracks, and submits crew hours and timesheets.
- Completes and maintains KEOPS entries and other required project documentation.
- Records and maintains documentation for daily safety meetings, toolbox talks, and inspections.
- Assists with daily reporting, data entry, and administrative functions.
- Supports material, equipment, and project tracking requirements.
- Assists with coordinating and monitoring flagging personnel while ensuring required breaks and coverage are maintained.
- Performs flagging duties as required.
- Provides general labour support to crews and assists with daily operations as needed.
- Supports Carmacks' Quality Control Program and Health & Safety initiatives on all projects.
What do we value?
- Previous civil construction, highway maintenance, traffic accommodation, or field administration experience is considered an asset.
- Work Zone Traffic Accommodation certification is considered an asset.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time management skills.
- Experience with electronic reporting, data entry, and Microsoft Office programs is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team with minimal supervision.
- Reliable, dependable, and punctual with a strong work ethic.
- Ability to perform both administrative and physical labour duties.
- Willingness to work out of town and in remote locations as required.
- Valid Class 5 Driver's License with an acceptable 5-year commercial driver's abstract.
- Successful candidates must be able to meet pre-employment testing requirements, including compliance with company drug and alcohol policies.
- Experience is an asset; however, Carmacks is willing to train the right candidate who demonstrates initiative, a positive attitude, and a desire to learn.
