Company: Whitewood Camps
Location: Remote project sites across Saskatchewan, British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, NWT, Yukon and Nunavut (fly-in/fly-out from major hubs).
Head office: Kelowna, BC.
Job Type: Rotational contract — ongoing/evergreen. We hire year-round to build our certified bench.
Pay: $400 – $600 per day
Rotation: Varies by project (typically 2in 2out or 3in 3out)
---> Two Skill Sets. One Role. Twice the Value.
Whitewood Camps is a remote camp catering and staffing company serving mining, exploration, and energy projects across Western Canada and the North. Our signature offering is the Cook/Medic — a professional camp cook who also holds advanced first aid certification and serves as the designated on-site medical responder.
It's a rare role for a rare kind of person: someone who can put out an outstanding dinner for a 30-person drill crew, then calmly manage a medical incident if one happens. If that's you, we want you on our bench — not just for one job, but for a career of rotations.
What You'll Do
In the kitchen (most of your day):
- Full-cycle meal preparation — breakfast, lunch, dinner, and out-lunches for crews of 10–35
- Menu planning, food ordering, and inventory management for remote resupply cycles
- Maintain food safety standards: HACCP procedures, temperature logs, allergen management
- Kitchen sanitation and dining area upkeep
- Manage second cooks / kitchen helpers on larger camps
As the site medic:
- Serve as the designated first aider for the camp
- Maintain the first aid room, kits, and AED
- Respond to injuries and medical incidents; coordinate with local health services and medevac when required
- Complete incident documentation and support OHS compliance
- Participate in site safety programs, orientations, and drills
What You Need
Required:
- Professional cooking experience in volume or camp settings (camp, institutional, military, or high-volume restaurant)
- Valid advanced first aid certification — one of:
- Advanced First Aid/OFA3
- Equivalent remote/advanced certification
- Food Safe / Food Handler certification
- Legally entitled to work in Canada
- Comfortable with remote, fly-in/fly-out life: shared facilities, extreme weather, limited connectivity, and extended rotations away from home
Strong assets:
- WHMIS 2015
- Prior experience on mining, exploration, or oil & gas camps
- Experience cooking solo for full camps
- TDG certification
- Valid driver's licence
Have the cooking chops but not the ticket?
Apply anyway, we also have positions for cooks without FA certifications. Plus, for the right cooks, we support certification pathways to Advanced First Aid. It's the single biggest raise you can give yourself in this industry.
