Job Title: Accounts Payable Specialist

Position Summary
Goodstoney First Nation is seeking a detail-oriented and organized Accounts Payable Specialist to join our Finance team. This role is responsible for supporting the full-cycle accounts payable process by ensuring invoices, expense claims, and payments are processed accurately and on time while maintaining compliance with organizational policies and financial procedures. The successful candidate will contribute to the efficient operation of the Finance department and help maintain strong relationships with vendors and internal stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
- Process vendor invoices, employee expense claims, and payment requests accurately and in a timely manner
- Review invoices for proper coding, approvals, and supporting documentation
- Prepare and process electronic funds transfers (EFTs), cheques, and other payment methods
- Reconcile vendor statements and resolve payment discrepancies
- Maintain accurate accounts payable records and filing systems
- Complete monthly credit card reconciliations and ensure transactions are properly supported
- Assist with month-end and year-end closing activities, including accruals and account reconciliations
- Respond to vendor and internal inquiries regarding invoices and payments
- Ensure compliance with internal controls, financial policies, and applicable regulations
- Maintain confidentiality of financial records and sensitive information
- Assist with internal and external audit requests by preparing supporting documentation
- Identify opportunities to improve accounts payable processes and efficiencies
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the Finance department
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or certificate in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum of 2–3 years of accounts payable or general accounting experience
- Solid understanding of basic accounting principles and accounts payable procedures
- Experience with Xyntax or a similar accounting/ERP system is considered an asset
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, with intermediate Excel skills
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and work independently in a fast-paced environment
- Must be willing and able to commute to the Goodstoney First Nation office for a full-time, on-site position
Preferred Assets
- Experience working with First Nations organizations, Indigenous communities, or the public sector
- Knowledge of Indigenous governance and financial administration
- Experience with electronic payment systems and financial reporting
Working Conditions
- This is a 100% on-site position based at the Goodstoney First Nation office.
- Standard office working hours.
- Candidates must be willing and able to commute to the work location daily.
