Overview
The Thorncliffe Greenview Community Association (TGCA) is seeking a dedicated and reliable Caretaker to support the daily operations and upkeep of our community facilities. This role plays an essential part in ensuring that TGCA remains a clean, safe, and welcoming environment for members, visitors, renters, and program participants.
Weekends
Friday - Sunday 7:00am - 3:30pm
Responsibilities
The Caretaker will be responsible for routine cleaning, (scrubbing and refinishing floors) minor maintenance tasks, facility room setups and takedowns, and supporting event operations as needed. The ideal candidate is someone who takes pride in their work, is comfortable working independently, and can respond quickly to the needs of a busy community space.
Facility Maintenance and repair skills
- General handyman skills (minor repairs, patching walls, tightening fixtures, basic carpentry)
- Basic plumbing (unclog drains, fix leaks, replace faucets/toilets parts)
- Basic electrical knowledge (reset breakers, replace bulbs/ballasts, check outlets)
- Equipment troubleshooting for facility machinery (floor scrubbers, vacuums, event equipment)
Cleaning and Sanitation Skills
- Deep cleaning of washrooms, kitchens, hallways, and high‑traffic areas
- Floor care: sweeping, mopping, auto-scrubbing, waxing, carpet shampooing
- Waste management and recycling procedures
- Safe handling of cleaning chemicals and WHMIS knowledge
- Maintaining cleanliness standards for public and rental spaces
Events & Rooms Setup Skills
- Setting up tables, chairs, staging, audio/visual equipment
- Reading and following event setup diagrams
- Quick turnover skills between events
- Ability to move and arrange heavy items safely (Chairs/Tables).
Customer Service and Communication Skills
- Communicating professionally with renters, staff, and the public
- Responding to facility issues quickly and politely
- Coordinating with management on maintenance needs
- Documenting issues, repairs, and supply needs
Organizational & Independent Working Skills
- Time management in a large, busy facility
- Working independently with minimal supervision
- Prioritizing tasks based on urgency
- Monitoring multiple spaces throughout a shift
Physical Abilities
- Ability to lift 40–50 lbs safely
- Working on ladders, lifts, or in confined areas as needed
- Standing or walking for long periods
- Operating cleaning and maintenance equipment
- Snow Removal
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00-$18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 25 – 30 per week
Work Location: In person
