The Role
The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating process for heavy civil construction projects from opportunity identification through bid submission and project handoff. The successful candidate will work closely with company leadership, operations personnel, subcontractors, suppliers, and clients to develop competitive and profitable bids.
Responsibilities
- Lead the preparation of estimates and tender submissions for heavy civil construction projects.
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and tender documents to identify scope, risks, and opportunities.
- Develop comprehensive labour, equipment, material, and subcontractor pricing strategies.
- Prepare and review quantity takeoffs and cost estimates.
- Analyze project risks, assumptions, exclusions, and contingency requirements.
- Lead bid strategy discussions and recommend pursuit decisions.
- Coordinate subcontractor and supplier pricing and evaluate proposals.
- Manage bonding, insurance, and prequalification requirements.
- Work closely with operations staff to ensure estimates reflect practical construction methods and current market conditions.
- Lead project handoff meetings and support transition to the construction team.
- Mentor and support junior estimators and other team members.
- Assist with the development and continuous improvement of estimating processes, standards, and historical cost databases.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and suppliers.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of estimating experience in heavy civil construction or related infrastructure sectors.
- Proficiency with HCSS HeavyBid, B2W, or similar estimating software.
- Strong understanding of municipal infrastructure, underground servicing, roadworks, site development, and civil construction methods.
- Degree, diploma, or equivalent experience in Civil Engineering, Construction Management, Engineering Technology, or a related discipline would be considered an asset.
- Advanced knowledge of construction costing, productivity analysis, and risk assessment.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to manage multiple pursuits and meet tight deadlines.
- Experience mentoring or leading estimating teams is considered an asset.

As our project portfolio continues to grow, we are seeking an experienced Senior Estimator to lead the preparation of competitive bids and help drive the strategic growth of the company. This is a key leadership position that will directly influence project selection, bid strategy, and operational success.
Pay: $100,000.00-$120,000.00 per year
