SUMMARY
The Process Engineering Specialist will support process development and improvement initiatives in coordination with Quality, Product Engineering, Process engineering, Program Management, Materials and Production Staff. Responsible for establishing, documenting, maintaining and improving processes. Responsible for monitoring and maintaining production equipment including but not limited to Mechanical router depanel, Laser Depanel / Marker, Cluso, AOI (SMT and Through hole) and SMT support. Will work within a cross functional team to ensure that processes are effective and efficient resulting in meeting the product requirements specified by the customer and delivering on time.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Review, maintain and revise manufacturing work instructions as required in all work centers to ensure clear and precise documentation.
- Initiate and champion continuous improvement projects in the plant to improve processes, facilities, equipment and personnel efficiencies through application of Lean and Six-Sigma methodologies.
- Work with program management and manufacturing coordinating and implementing activities to support successful new product launches based on planned and unplanned engineering development requirements.
- Provide recommendations on new equipment that may be required to support new customers or to improve manufacturing efficiency.
- Provide training on new processes and procedures (see above for equipment list) and responsible as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) and related Train the Trainer requirements.
- Conduct Process Capability studies with supporting actions to address any deficiencies
- Perform studies of work center operations to ensure that process flows maximize efficiencies in product build.
- Develop /trouble shoot processes and provide daily support including Mechanical router depanel, Laser Depanel / Marker, Cluso, AOI (SMT and Through hole) and SMT support as they are implemented.
- Develop and implement measurements for equipment to ensure their operation to required specifications.
- Evaluate Engineering Change Requests and related cost impact for areas of responsibility to provide actions to Engineering Change Coordinator/ Program Manager to close.
- Manage the design of process fixtures and tooling (see above for equipment list)
- Conduct root cause analysis and propose corrective actions for resolutions to manufacturing and quality problems due to processes or equipment
- Conduct design of experiments and defect and failure analyses and prepare required reports
- Manage machine maintenance and ensure optimum equipment performance for the above processes including reviewing and updating spare part requirements and maintenance support needs working with Maintenance and Production
- Assist manufacturing and production readiness reviews.
- Responsible for ensuring that any outstanding audit requirements, including NCAR’s (corrective actions) are followed through in an expedient and timely manner and to the due dates specified
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS
- Electronic or Mechanical Engineering BS degree or equivalent required
- Experience with MES – Manufacturing Execution Systems preferred
- A minimum of 10 years in Electronics or related Manufacturing experience
- 3+ years extensive hands-on experience with ISO-9000 registered environment required.
- Electronics Contract Manufacturing experience preferred.
SKILLS AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Good mechanical aptitude with hands on experience.
- Self starter, a team player, good communication skills and able to handle multiple tasks smoothly
- Strong knowledge of Operational Excellence principles, visual workplace, and creating highly efficient electronic assembly and documentation
- Good knowledge of Surface Mount, AOI, Depaneling.
- Excellent knowledge of process fixtures design (Depaneling router pallets, work holders, etc.)
- Experience with Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) operation and programming
- Experience in the use of Microsoft Office applications, Gerber Viewer, Computer Aided Design (CAD) and PC knowledge required.
- Experience with assembly process evaluation, control and validation, FMEA, SPC, and first article process controls, Design of Experiments (DOE), Design for Manufacturability (DFM)
- Extensive Knowledge and hands on experience with IPC-A-610 and IPC-J-STD-001 standards
- Excellent command of written and spoken English
HOURS OF WORK, LOCATION, SCHEDULE
- This position’s normal hours of work is from Monday to Friday, 8:30 am to 5:00 pm ET.
- This role will be 100% on-site at the Markham, Ontario Canada facilities (Building A- 195 Royal Crest Court and/or Building B – 3930 14th Avenue locations) as business needs dictate.
