Position Overview
The Women’s Centre of Halton is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Administrative Assistant to support court support services in a Men's Community Centre.
This position will be carried out in collaboration with a partner organization in Burlington. The successful candidate will be placed within the partnering organization while receiving training, guidance, and direction from The Women’s Centre of Halton. The role provides hands-on experience in administrative support, client services, and family court processes within a community-based setting.

Key Responsibilities & Learning Activities
Court Accompaniment (Observation & Shadowing)
- Accompany clients to family court hearings or legal appointments
- Take notes during proceedings and provide emotional support as directed
Client Intake & Follow-Up Support
- Assist in completing intake forms for new court support clients
- Conduct follow-up calls or emails to confirm appointment dates and check on client needs (non-legal guidance only)
- Assist on court drop-in days
Court Document Preparation Support
Legal Information & Referral Support
Research & Resource Development
Administrative Support
- Maintain accurate and confidential case files and logs
- Schedule court support appointments and keep calendars up to date
Workshop Assistance
Advocacy Support
Data Entry & Reporting
- Enter service statistics into internal systems (e.g., clients served, issues presented)
- Support data collection for quarterly and year-end reports
Confidentiality & Trauma-Informed Practice
- Uphold strict confidentiality and demonstrate a trauma-informed, non-judgmental approach at all times
- Attend weekly debriefs with supervisor
Qualifications
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality and professionalism
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Interest in nonprofit work, social services, or legal support services is an asset
Position details
- 35 hours per week for 8 weeks (total 280 hours)
- Work will take place at a partnering organization in Burlington, with supervision and direction provided by The Women’s Centre of Halton
