Why is this role important?
The Senior Consultant provides strategic leadership in the development and execution of the hospital data transformation strategic initiative for the Director and CIHI leadership. This role plays a critical part in advancing CIHI’s strategic plan by supporting senior management decision-making, leading committee work and strategic projects and building and maintaining effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders and vendor partners. The key function of this role is to ensure CIHI's business logic, standards, and requirements are appropriately represented throughout CIHI’s hospital system design and build process.
What you'll do
1. Provide strategic planning and day to day management for assigned portfolio(s), ensuring alignment with assigned budget, branch objectives, and corporate priorities.
2. Lead and motivate matrix-based project teams by providing clear direction, effectively delegating work, monitoring performance outcomes, supporting development, and guiding teams through change while modeling CIHI’s core values.
3. Provide strategic advice and expertise to support senior management decision-making related to divisional and corporate strategic initiatives. Conduct background research on emerging and priority issues and develop briefing materials, analyses, and recommendations as required.
4. Develop formal strategies, frameworks, and implementation plans for emerging and priority areas within the Division and, where required, across CIHI.
5. Lead and manage key divisional initiatives using appropriate project management methodologies and tools, including the assessment of strategic opportunities, development of business cases, and support for innovation and continuous improvement.
6. Promote CIHI’s mandate, products, and services through participation on committees, delivery of presentations, attendance at conferences, and provision of secretariat support to internal and external committees as required.
7. Establish and maintain professional relationships on behalf of CIHI at the national, provincial, and regional levels, and liaise with stakeholders to advance identified initiatives and projects.
8. Build and sustain a strong network of internal professional relationships to support collaboration, open communication, trust, and shared outcomes.
9. Develop, monitor, and report on divisional and/or departmental operational plans and budgets, ensuring alignment with corporate priorities and compliance with CIHI planning and reporting requirements.
What you'll bring to the table
- Undergraduate degree in Business Administration, Public Policy, Health Information Sciences, Social Sciences or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Minimum 5 years relevant professional experience, including managing complex projects in a matrix environment with a high level of accountability for outcomes and deliverables.
- Demonstrated leadership experience.
- Demonstrated knowledge of CIHI’s mandate, business, and operating context, as well as the operating environments of key stakeholders (e.g., policy-makers, health system managers, governments).
- Strong strategic, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess complex issues and develop practical, forward-looking solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to build trusted relationships and influence effectively at all organizational levels.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare briefing materials, discussion papers, and presentations for senior audiences.
- Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to support collaboration, consensus-building, and stakeholder engagement.
