The Vessel Entry Technician is responsible for accessing, removing, and refilling catalyst material within processing vessels used in petroleum refining and petrochemical facilities. This work is performed in both inert and non-inert confined spaces and may involve exposure to hazardous pyrophoric materials. Technicians utilize supplied breathing air systems, specialized respirators, and safety equipment while maintaining constant communication with team members.
This position is considered seasonal due to the project based nature of the job.

Key Responsibilities:
- Participate in daily safety meetings, hazard assessments, and job planning activities.
- Ensure all equipment and personal protective equipment (PPE) is available, inspected, and in good working condition.
- Perform confined space entry work in both inert and non-inert atmospheres while wearing supplied breathing air helmets and respirators.
- Install and utilize ladders and access equipment to safely enter and exit vessels.
- Operate vacuum and suction systems to remove spent catalyst material from process vessels.
- Remove, inspect, repair, and reinstall vessel internals including trays, screens, and support structures.
- Access lower catalyst beds by removing internal trays and components as required.
- Operate catalyst loading equipment and “sock” systems to refill vessels with fresh catalyst material.
- Level and distribute catalyst material using hand tools such as shovels and boards.
- Perform equipment cleaning, inspections, and maintenance activities upon completion of work.
- Complete all required paperwork and documentation accurately, including inspection reports, and hazard assessments.
- Adhere to all company, customer, and legislative safety policies, procedures, and regulations.
- Promote a positive safety culture and maintain professionalism in all interactions with clients, supervisors, and coworkers.
- Work effectively as part of a team in demanding industrial environments.
Requirements:
- Valid Class 5/G driver's license with a clean driver's abstract.
- Strong commitment to safety and experience working in industrial environments.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Exceptional customer service attitude and professionalism.
- Mechanical aptitude and ability to work with specialized equipment.
- Strong organizational and housekeeping skills.
- Must be in good physical condition, capable of lifting at least 50 lbs., and able to perform physically demanding work.
- Ability to work in confined spaces and wear supplied breathing air helmets and respirators for extended periods.
- Comfortable working at heights.
- Willingness and ability to travel extensively and work 10–12-hour shifts, including nights, weekends, and out-of-town assignments.
- Ability to access client facilities, including successful completion of drug and alcohol screening requirements where applicable.
