About the Role
We are seeking a highly skilled Rework Technician to perform precise component-level rework on complex PCB assemblies. This position demands expert-level proficiency with stereoscopic and digital microscopes, hot air rework stations, and fine-pitch soldering tools. You will be the final line of quality for non-conforming product — your workmanship must be flawless.
Core Rework Responsibilities
- Remove and replace SMD components including BGAs, QFPs, QFNs, 0201/01005 passives, and fine-pitch ICs using appropriate rework stations
- Perform underfill removal, and BGA site restoration to IPC-7711/7721 standards
- Operate stereoscopic and digital microscopes (minimum 10x–40x) to inspect solder joints, pad conditions, and component placement before, during, and after rework
- Execute hot air and IR reflow rework for lead and lead-free alloys; manage precise temperature profiles per component datasheets
- Conduct micro-soldering and wire repair on traces, vias, and fine-pitch pads down to 0.3 mm pitch
- Interpret assembly drawings, component datasheets, and rework travellers to determine the correct rework process for each job
- Document all rework activity including before/after inspection photos, process deviations, and yield data
- Perform IPC-A-610 visual inspections and apply accept/reject criteria consistently
Required Qualifications — Rework Specific
You must be able to demonstrate all of the following in a hands-on skills evaluation:
- Minimum 3 years of dedicated PCB rework experience — not general SMT assembly or soldering
- Proficient with stereoscopic microscopes and digital inspection microscopes; comfortable performing active rework under magnification for sustained periods
- Demonstrated BGA removal and replacement experience
- Expert with hot air rework stations (e.g., Hakko, Metcal, ERSA, JBC); ability to set and verify temperature profiles
- Hands-on experience with micro-soldering, pad lift repair, and trace repair
- Working knowledge of IPC-7711/7721 rework standards; IPC CIS/CIT certification is a strong asset
- Ability to read and interpret PCB assembly drawings, bill of materials, and component datasheets
- Experience with both lead and lead-free (SAC305) solder processes
