Responsibilities:
- The Cadmium plater will operate electrolytic plating equipment to coat metal objects with cadmium, nickel, copper, or other metals, to provide protective surfaces according to customer specifications.
- Read and follow Shop Traveler to determine size and composition of parts to be plated, type concentration and temperature of plating solution, type and thickness and location of specified plating metal, amount of electrical current and time required to complete plating process, also immerses object in cleaning and rinsing tanks.
- Suspends parts from electrodes and immerse them in the plating solution, set the controls on rectifier to adjust flow of current through plating solution between electrodes and adjusts voltage and amperage to permit electro-deposition of metal on parts.
- Inspect parts visually at the end of process to determine the thickness of metal deposit, using elcometer, micrometer or caliper, measure, mark, and mask areas excluded from plating.
- Plate small parts, using motor-driven barrel.
- Abrade surfaces of metal or to remove adhering scale, sand, paint, grease, tar, rust, and dirt, and to impart specified finish, using abrasive blasting equipment, masks specified areas of the part to protect it from abrading action.
