As their project portfolio continues to expand, they are seeking an experienced Commercial Estimator to join their growing team. This newly created position offers an exciting opportunity to play a key role in strengthening the company's preconstruction capabilities while contributing to its continued success.
The Opportunity Reporting directly to the Vice President of Operations, the Commercial Estimator will be responsible for leading the estimating process from initial bid through project handoff. This role is ideal for an experienced professional who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys partnering with clients, consultants, subcontractors, and internal project teams to deliver accurate, competitive estimates.
As an integral member of the organization, you'll help drive successful project pursuits while supporting the company's ongoing growth and commitment to excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate and competitive estimates for commercial construction projects, from conceptual budgeting through tender submission.
- Perform detailed quantity take-offs, cost analysis, and pricing for labour, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
- Review drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation to clearly define project scope, identify risks, and uncover opportunities.
- Solicit and evaluate pricing from subcontractors and suppliers while cultivating strong industry relationships.
- Analyze subcontractor quotations and prepare bid comparison summaries.
- Identify value engineering opportunities and provide cost-effective solutions where appropriate.
- Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and client discussions.
- Work closely with Operations and Project Management teams to ensure a seamless transition from estimating to project execution.
- Monitor market trends, labour rates, and material costs to maintain accurate and competitive pricing.
- Maintain organized estimating records, historical cost data, and bid documentation.
Qualifications Required
- 10–15 years of estimating experience within the commercial construction industry.
- Previous experience working for a General Contractor is required.
- Strong knowledge of commercial construction methods, sequencing, scheduling, and pricing.
- Minimum of three years estimating commercial projects within the Edmonton market.
- Established relationships with local subcontractors and suppliers.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
- Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tenders and deadlines simultaneously.
- Valid Class 5 driver's licence and access to a reliable vehicle (mileage reimbursed).
Preferred
- Journeyperson certification or previous experience in Carpentry or another construction trade.
- Experience using Vista ERP.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
