GENERAL DESCRIPTION
The Supply Chain & Logistics Coordinator is responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound transportation across all company facilities. The position manages freight movements by truck, rail, intermodal, ocean container, and bulk tanker to support reliable, safe, timely, and cost-effective delivery of ingredients, commodities, and finished products.
Working closely with Procurement, Operations, Production, Sales, suppliers, carriers, freight forwarders, and customs brokers, the coordinator monitors shipments, resolves transportation issues, maintains accurate documentation, and identifies opportunities to reduce costs and improve transportation efficiency. The position also supports logistics reporting, inventory accuracy, and continuous improvement initiatives.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Transportation Coordination
- Coordinate inbound and outbound shipments of bulk commodities, packaged ingredients, and some finished products.
- Schedule and track transportation by full truckload, less-than-truckload, rail, intermodal, ocean container, and bulk tanker.
- Coordinate delivery appointments and ensure suppliers, carriers, receiving teams, Operations, and Production are aligned on timing, quantity, and delivery requirements.
- Monitor shipments from origin to destination and communicate delays, service disruptions, or changes to affected stakeholders.
- Resolve transportation issues involving delays, shortages, damages, missed deliveries, and incomplete documentation.
- Maintain accurate freight records, bills of lading, rail documentation, container information, and shipment tracking data.
Rail, Intermodal, and Ocean Freight
- Coordinate railcar and intermodal container movements and maintain communication with carriers and service providers.
- Monitor railcar cycle times, vessel schedules, container movements, and equipment return requirements.
- Work with Operations and Production to support timely unloading and reduce demurrage and detention charges.
- Coordinate with customs brokers, freight forwarders, ports, drayage providers, and carriers to support import clearance and on-time delivery.
- Ensure required import and transportation documentation is complete and submitted on time.
Transportation Planning and Carrier Management
- Develop transportation schedules that support production requirements, inventory needs, and customer commitments.
- Work with Procurement to secure transportation capacity for incoming ingredients.
- Obtain and compare freight rates and assist with carrier selection, contract reviews, and freight negotiations.
- Build effective working relationships with transportation providers and maintain carrier contact and service records.
- Monitor carrier performance, transportation costs, transit times, and service reliability.
- Identify opportunities to improve truck and trailer utilization, reduce empty miles, and balance company-owned transportation assets with third-party carriers.
- Support contingency planning during transportation and supply chain disruptions.
Reporting and Continuous Improvement
- Maintain transportation reports, scorecards, dashboards, and key performance indicators.
- Analyze freight costs, carrier performance, on-time delivery, transit times, demurrage, detention, and company truck utilization.
- Use Excel, Power Query, Power BI, ERP systems, and other available tools to improve reporting and transportation visibility.
- Identify trends, cost-saving opportunities, and service improvements, and provide actionable recommendations to management.

Support logistics improvement projects, standard operating procedures, automation, and appropriate use of AI-assisted tools.

Assist with improving shipment visibility, operational efficiency, and transportation processes across facilities.
Receiving and Inventory Accuracy
- Support accurate and timely inventory transactions and receiving records.
- Identify, document, and escalate quantity variances, damage, and missing or incomplete shipment documentation.
- Work with Procurement, warehouse, receiving, and logistics personnel to resolve receipt discrepancies.

Participate in scheduled inventory counts and help ensure that established count procedures are followed consistently.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in logistics, transportation, supply chain, procurement, or freight coordination.
- Experience managing multiple transportation modes preferred.
- Feed, agriculture, grain, commodity, manufacturing, or food industry experience considered a strong asset.
- Experience coordinating bulk commodity shipments preferred.
- Experience working closely with Operations and Production teams in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Experience using advanced Excel, Power BI, business intelligence, or other data analytics tools preferred.

Experience using AI-assisted tools for reporting, analysis, process improvement, or operational decision support considered an asset.
SKILLS AND COMPETENCIES
- Strong understanding of transportation and logistics operations.
- Effective planning, scheduling, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel; experience with Power Query or Power BI is preferred.
- Ability to interpret transportation, inventory, operational, and financial data and develop practical recommendations.
- Strong organizational, communication, and relationship-management skills.
- Ability to coordinate multiple shipments and priorities in a time-sensitive environment.
- High level of accuracy and attention to detail.

EDUCATION

Diploma or degree in logistics, transportation, supply chain management, business administration, or a related field is preferred.

An equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience will be considered.

SCMP, CITT, or a related supply chain or transportation designation is an asset.
