Position Summary
Clinical Nurse Educator, Seniors’ Health Centre
Your goal in this position is to be accountable for fostering the development of interprofessional practice and education excellence and facilitating the provision of outstanding resident and family experiences within the Seniors’ Health Centre, Long-Term Care Home team. In collaboration with the Director of interprofessional practice and education and Director of Care you will be responsible for supporting the development of a high-performance team, ensuring the delivery of quality and safe care for residents and families.You will be instrumental in creating a professional and healthy work environment for staff, physicians, and volunteers through leadership, advocacy for best-practices and research, policy development, and coaching. You will also participate in appropriate internal and external committees, project teams, and other related activities that support the implementation of leading practices in geriatric interprofessional practice. You will collaborate with other Clinical Nurse Educators and related colleagues to promote patient-centered care, participating in clinically relevant research, and developing, conducting, and evaluating innovating programs for this specialized patient population. You have in-depth knowledge of the patient populations, expert clinical skills and acts as a mentor, coach and educational resource to staff. You have highly effective interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal). You have excellent organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to achieve outcomes. You have strong project management skills, with the ability to give feedback. You have the ability to build relationships with peers and other contacts across the organization and externally to create opportunities for synergy/integration. This position supports the hospital’s academic mandate by advancing care through teaching and learning and/or transforming care through research and innovation. This position contributes to the shared responsibility of ensuring health and safety policies are followed to provide for a healthy environment for residents, staff, physicians, volunteers and families.
On a practical level, you will
- Provide education and professional practice leadership and accountability at program level for a high quality and safe patient/family experience, as well as corporate care initiatives in collaboration with Director of Professional Practice and Education and Seniors Director of Care, Associate Directors of Care, and other team members of Seniors Care
- Plan, develop, implement and evaluate programs to meet the educational needs of interprofessional staff
- Promote best practice and evidence-based care through the implementation of initiatives that are aligned with the organization’s strategic direction and program goals
- Develop and provide educational opportunities for interprofessional team to support professional development, as well as maintain competency and to expand knowledge base
- Lead and facilitate simulation activities to support experiential learning
- Review, revise and implements evidence-based practices and standards of care as they evolve
- Facilitate staff to continually monitor and define competency-based requirements, interpret scope of practice, legislative and credentialing requirements collaboration with the operational team
- Participate in conducting clinically relevant research and develop, conduct and evaluate innovative programs for specific patient populations
- Foster an environment that promotes People-Centred Care and interprofessional collaboration
- Maintain compliance with required Health & Safety, environmental and other legislative requirements
Qualifications
- B.Sc.N. required, master’s degree in a related field required
- Current registration & good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- Minimum of 3 years Long-Term Care experience
- Current or recent experience in Adult Education
- Gerontology Certificate, preferred
- Vulnerable Sector Screening to be completed upon hire, or within 6 months prior to hiring date
